Picked up an M&P .22, took it to the range and put about 375 rounds through it. Well, somewhere around 300rds it behaved a bit strange... Let off a burst of 3-4 rounds with one pull of the trigger.

Figured it was weak ammunition not sending the bolt far enough back to reset the trigger. Changed ammo and continued to fire.

Around 370, I pulled the trigger, got a 3-5 round burst and an out of battery discharge which blew the extractor off.

Anyone else have problems like this? I know the extractor issue isn't uncommon, but burst fire? THAT is a serious issue which could land someone in jail!

Re: M&P15-22 problems

I experienced this; I just called S&W and they sent me a shipping label and a box. I returned it and they fixed it up and send it back in ~1 week (and even included a couple of magazines).

Re: M&P15-22 problems

Alright, thanks for the info! Soon as I get home (out of town visiting a friend), I'll be sure to send it in. One week turn around isn't too shabby!

Re: M&P15-22 problems

Needless to say, I was a bit shocked when I got a burst of fire. And very unhappy when it blew my extractor off on the second occurrence.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

Anyone had and issue blowing the base out of a piece of brass with this rifle (s&w 15-22). I was shooting some guick follow ups and on the second shot the report was twice as loud as usual. I checked the chamber and it was jammed, cleared the brass to realize the brass just above the rim had been destoyed. Causes other than a juvinile shooter???

The rifle could be firing out of battery; I'd send it back to S&W and they'll take care of it.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

I had mine split a case and when it did the extractor flew out of it. Sent it back to S&W. Took about a week to get it back. Haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet as I'm in the process of moving.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

I got mine at the beginning of the year and had to send it back to S&W, but since it came back, there hasn't been a single hiccup. I only shoot CCI Mini Mags or the Federal 550 Bulk pack ammo, and I've been able to empty a 25 round clip as fast as I can pull the trigger and still no issues. I've heard that it can be rather picky with what kind of ammo you use, but it seems that it likes the Mini Mags and the bulk pack the best.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

UPDATE:

Sent the gun in--- they asked that I send in all magazines... to which they replaced all mag springs. Replaced the extractor and installed new recoil spring and hammer spring (both blue in color). Seems that both are lighter... tells me my suspicion of the bolt not traveling back far enough to reset the trigger is about right.

have not taken it to the range yet. Should be able to report back on the performance around the end of the week. I'll put several hundred rounds through it.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

UPDATE:

Took it out shooting this weekend... put 150rds through it of Remington (which is shit ammo I've learned)... the firing bursts randomly and out of battery discharge SEEM to be solved. I'll need to put about 1000 more rds through it before I'm fully decided that it's fixed. But at face value for now it seems alright.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

UPDATE:

Up to about 900rds... I think it's safe to say S&W's fix for out of battery discharge and going full-auto was successful.

Re: M&P15-22 problems

I'm glad I saw and read this thread. I have one but so far it only has about 200 rounds through it. No problems to report yet, and hopefully never. I bought this for my boys as a trainer for them to work upto the centerfire AR15s so I'd hate for it to go FA with one of them on the trigger.
