I need some help...

I inheritted a Springfield M1 Garand built in the 1950's (according to the serial number) from my grandfather. It was outside in his shed for at least 20 years and it's missing some parts.

My question is, is there anyone out there that specializes in getting M1 Garands up and running again or is this something that a local 'smith can do? I have a feeling it'll need quite a bit of work, but I want to get it shooting again. Thanks!

Re: M1 Garand Rebuild/refurb

It may be less expensive to buy a working Service or Rack grade from CMP depending on just what issues it has.

That said... if it's mainly cosmetics and the receiver and bbl are good... parts can be replaced and although it may look like hell cosmetically it will still shoot and function properly.

I had Orion 7 build one and am very happy with it. I get many compliments on how it looks, and it seems to shoot tighter groups at the local CMP shoots than many on the line, even though I am fairly certain the competitors are more experienced and better shots than I am. Tony the owner is the president of the M1 Garand collectors organization. m1garandrifle.com

I do my own work, but that simply means I can bed and finish wood. I would send a friend to Fulton, simply because they do the work on a wider scale. Good rep so far as I know.
