I am new to snipers hide so please be patient with me lol, I am looking for information on an M14 I recently acquired...just don't know enough about them to know what I have, it is a Federal Ordnance M14SA. The stock looks like it has been filled in from where the select fire switch used to be. Anyone know much about these?

Re: M14 Information

You would probably find out more info one "The firing line" m14 forum. As I recaill they are cast receivers, some with USGI parts such as bolt, oprod, barrel, trigger group, gas cylinder. Most though if I recall correctly had chinese parts. I do think they also did a few as match rifles.

Re: M14 Information

There were two types one with USGI parts and the other with Chinese parts. The receivers were cast and were not that great. They had a tendency of being out of specification. Usually something to stay awayfrom unless they had all USGI parts. Then if the receiver was giving you troubles you could replace it with another that was more reliable. If yours runs fine that's great. USGI parts have a manufacturer and drawing number on the majority of the parts like barrel, bolt, op rod, windage/elevation knobs, hammer, trigger and trigger housing

Thats probably an orginal surplus M14 stock. Springfield Armory use to do that to their stocks.

My M1A I got in 1977 came that way.

It was quite common.

Take a look hear:

Have something to drink and start reading.

Over the years I have owned 19 different Semi-Auto versions of the M14, SA - Armscorp - FedOrd & SmithEnt. Maybe I was very lucky but all of them run very well. I still retain 3 currently.

Enjoy you purchase!
