Hi everyone,
Looking for some help with selecting some features for new stock. Tried using the search function, but couldn't find much there. Found a ton of jae vs sage threads...nothing on stock features though. Anyway...
Please suggest some "must have" features for JAE stock. I'm starting new build...this is kind of my "grail" rifle. I'd like to set it up for 300-600 yard range.
Trying to keep the cost as low as possible without skimping on stuff that I will regret not getting due to lack of knowledge/experience. Also don't want to buy things that look cool but don't really serve much function. ;/
So...please help.
Thanks in advance to all.

Re: M1a JAE advice?

#1 barrel tensioner
#2 thumb wheel cheek rest

These two are the most essential additions. Everything else you can live without.

+1
and get the:
3 quick detach for the cheek rest so you can use your irons
4 off hand rest w/ picatinny rail so you can use a monopod
5 butt Pad
6 palm rest
7 sling plate
8 bottom picatinny rail (6")

Re: M1a JAE advice?

My GenII JAE is loaded with everything and I can't think of a single feature that I don't use except for the barrel tensioner, BUT I would recommend getting it anyway since all rifles respond differently. Mine just happens to shoot tighter with no tension.

At the time I got mine there were some options for titanium slide lugs which I did not get...minimal weight savings for the price.

Re: M1a JAE advice?

yes, it would be a good idea to get a barrel tensioner. most people don't get one either because they don't know what it is, or don't know how to use it. If you're planning on rapidly firing, get it. If you're planning on firing for extended periods, get it. If you want to learn how to use it, get it.

I like my EBR stock with it, like i said though - a lot of people don't know what its for though.

Re: M1a JAE advice?

Thanks everyone, i appreciate the feedback. I read that the adjustable wheel wasn't REALLY necessary because most people set the saddle height and never touch it again...agree? Disagree? Are the irons really obstructed unless you remove the pad? Don't think I'd mount anything other than bipod, so rail is still kinda up in the air. I don't really want to rush this purchase, but they're offering 12% off + 5%LEO discount...kinda hard to pass up.
Again, thanks everyone for your help!!

Yes...It's next to impossible to see the irons.

Actually no weight savings, titanium is heavier than the standard aluminum slides used. The upgrade is the strength over aluminum.

I wouldn't do the thumbwheel if I was doing another JAE. I'd rather make a solid spacer that put me behind the scope everytime rather than have the added weight. The JAE is nice, I'd go tensioner, butt pad, flush mount cups with qr swivels, spacer cheek riser, heavy barrel hand guard and four inch bottom rail.

I've since moved to a Sage Mod 1 though, getting at least the same accuracy from it. I spent about $1800 on my JAE with all the options... I spent $870 on my Sage Mod 1 that's doing the same job.
