I just bought an M1A and love it. However I was out at the range with it the second time and I was using the iron sights slowly squeezing the trigger. After the rifle fired the action cycled and without me pulling the trigger a second time the rifle fired another shot. Being a brand new rifle I dont know how the sear could be slipping I also thought maybe since the trigger was being squeezed the recoil of the first round reset the trigger and when the rifle came to rest it fired again. The rifle also did this later on during the same firing session. Any ideas would be much appriciatated thanks.

This is a common problem with new M1-A owners. Most people do not hold the rifle tight enough and do not follow thru with the trigger. A tight hold and holding the trigger back when the shot breaks will often cure this problem.

If the recoil is resetting the trigger then you are letting it happen.You must control the recoil, lean into the rifle. Is your rifle NM or standard? Are you shooting off bags or a bipod? I have been shooting High Power with the M1-A since 1986 and have seen this problem alot. 99times out of 100 it is shooter induced. You may have a binding problem in the trigger group. If you take the trigger group out of the rifle and then put it back in is it difficult to close the trigger guard? If not make sure the TG is clean and maybe let someone else shoot the rifle and see if the problem goes away.

I had a Polytech that did the same thing. It would pretty much go full auto on me. I sent it back and got a new one that was fine.
