About 10 years ago Smith Ent. rebarreled my M1A, put it in a McMillan and made it ready for HP Service Rifle competition. The rifle shot very well and Smith Ent. was very easy to work with.
Now that I shoot an AR in HP Service Rifle I wanted to put some glass on the M1A. Ultimately, I decided to put it into a SAGE chassis with a "Smith Top" for the scope mount. I ran into some problems getting it apart so I called up Smith Ent. and spoke with Jack. I sent him the rifle and had it back within a week. Great customer service and great work on the rifle.

Thanks... I will contact him. I can't ship it, nor do I know how it'll work since it's a USGI M14. if he isn't Class III, I either have to be there when he works on it, or I don't know if he can lol.
I'm only looking to do non permanent changes to the rifle. If gov wants his rifle back, I will have to put it back to stock configuration.
Just spoke with Bruce from Dow Arms Room. for Class III work (if it's for a LEA) he needs a letter showing the rifle is assigned to us, and a letter explicitly showing what needs to be done to the rifle. Reviews seem very good for him, and he said turn around can be fairly quick. I will update you guys on what's going on with it. For now, I need to get some time and just shoot these things first after a thorough cleaning.

I like the sage chassis, but sadly it is not an option considering where I live. If I do have one built, it will have to be neuterd.
I haven't had a rifle built by Bruce Dow but have been to his shop and seen his work. I would not hesitate to have Bruce work on a M14/M1A.
