My cheating target....I dont adjust the Leupold and having zero set at a 2 mil hold under I created this little cheat sheet.....

Not the best day....the expected 1.4 mils hold was dropping them low. Brought it up almost a mil to start getting in the 3 inch circle. Its much more fun as a steel gun than a grouping gun.....

Hopefully I will be doing the same with my M40 tomorrow. I like your drop target idea. I have mine zeroed at 400. Might have to start a "What will your M40 do at X", thread 😊 It would be a small sample group, but fun data to see.

Great shooting my friend with a beautiful rifle.

    Love that dudes enthusiasm.

So happy to see a painted stock.

I wish I had of bought a couple Dep Taylors when they were sub $300.

Typical paint was a surplus navy paint they slapped on to seal them up.

I think @USMCSGT0331 may have one with some paint remnants

Yeah and he was an army sniper.

Still wondering how the range finder works in those scopes.

But really like how the barrelled action, camo stock, and low mounted scope work together.

I wonder what the parallax was with those scopes?

Here's an original M40 stock that still has its Vietnam War green paint, I dropped a real M40 barreled action into it to see how it looked:

You can fairly easily scoop up a accurange and try it for yourself. You don't have to get a era correct one just for the reticle.

My dad has had wideview accurange on his LH Weatherby Mark V 270Wby Mag since the mid 80's.

To this day he has zero clue how the rangefinder or the BDC knob works. Gun has like 300-400 yards point blank range on whitetails so he doesn't have to think about it.

No, that one is owned by another member here. These are the only 2 M40 stocks I know of in private collections that still have their original Vietnam War paint. There were other at Crane, but those are probably all cut up and trashed by now. These stocks are quite interesting and I learned a little bit about how Vietnam War Scout Snipers painted their rifles compared to how they do it today. These extremely rare parts can give historians a glimpse into the past, so they're priceless artifacts.

I might be working on something right now, just need to get the rest of the photos taken........

I'm also going to post some pics of stocks and barrels in another thread, I'm working on the post right now. Give me about half an hour or so and you'll have more photos to look at.

Still no dice on posting pics.
File loads 100%, but before the "insert" icon pops up this appears instead:

Rig: Remington SSA commerative with period correct 1st generation, albiet a non accurange, Redfield 3x9.
Load: 168 SMK over 43.6gr AA 4064 for an a average mv of 2632 fps.
Target: 9" plate @300 yds, represents the vital zone on the average mature eastern whitetail.
Being a fixed range scope i have it zero'd @ 200 and a 12" holdover puts me on target @300, which is about my self imposed limit for shootin deer using the holdover method and a plain crosshair reticle.
Winds were gusting yesterday out of the west @ 7-15 mph with the odd very brief period of near calm.
I held a foot over and with the vertical leg on the edge of the plate to compensate for wind drift.
10 rounds fired, 9 hits. One of those afore mentioned drops in wind speed got me, the bullet to impacted the berm at 9 o'clock, just missing the plate.

Your photo is probably too large, shrink it to under 1MB and try again. I ran into that issue when uploading pics, the website can only handle a certain amount of information. Higher data photos can be linked from other websites and image hosting sites, but those same photos can't be uploaded directly to this forum because of their size. I hope this helps!

Edit: I didn't even look at your post below this one, looks like you already got it working. Maybe this info will help others who are having issues.

Admin seems to have fixed the problem, but thanks for the tip nonetheless.
