Accurateshooter.com has an 8 minute video produced by Remington concerning the evolution of the M40. I have not watched it, just passing the info.

I just wish it was an actual pictorial history of the versions of the rifles. The M40 has been through several variants, as has the M24, but all are based on the requirements of a durable, reliable rifle that will take that first shot no matter what, do it accurately, and with precision. I can think of about three versions of the rifle from the 60's to the 70's, upgraded versions in the 80's and ninety's, with the A4 variant in current use. The M24 also has multiple variants that begin with a basic varmint rifle and end with the current box magazine fed variant of today
