Hey gang,

Came across some money in Vegas. Put most in savings, bl some on the family. Was encouraged to spend the rest on myself. Wanted to do a M40 build. Was needing a push in the right direction. I wanted to AT LEAST get the barrel, muzzle device and stock accurate.

Anyone done one? Should I buy new or used? What’s a good outlet to buy from? All my bolt actions, have come pre-built. I know some but not enough. Some input would be great and appreciated!

Thanks!
**Pic provided for the direction I would like to go in.**

https://www.gaprecision.net/ or
https://www.milehighshooting.com/ recently had them sell and put together my mdt acc and could not be happier with the out come of that gun . I can only imagine they sell that , they should be able to help you either way.
they would for me be my first two stops to look or call .
I do not have one yet so others could have more incite on them or know other companies that are good to go through . Good luck in finding and getting your gun with whom ever you decide to get it through .

Talk to Mark Williams at Raven Rifles

he is @Raven 6 on here and posts a lot at www.m40rifle.com

He has built me two rifles and they are hammers.

This is my M40a1ish, a rifle that contains design deatures from each rifle in the series up to the A5....

He knows the spec, makes the right receiver cuts, Is a competitive shooter so he builds rifles that shoot. cant recommend him enough.

And as an aside there is no M40A4 rifle fielded....

M40

M40A1

M40A3

M40A5

M40A6

They may have in house called something an A2 or A4 but it never made it in the fleet by that name.

Yep just noticed that. The stock is an A4 on McMillians web site but it’s the A5 variant. I’m definitely gonna check out raven rifles ??!

Another place to look is in the PX section. Every now and then someone will be looking to sell their M40A3 or A5 clone.

Usually dudes dump a bunch of cash on one, read an article or two about how 308 is apparently useless, then sell it because they have to have a round that the internet says works. ...which is awesome because it means you can snag some nice setups for cheap.

As for the optic, that’s the hardest part. EuroOptic and GAP have the S&B model listed, but just accept that it isn’t going to say 8541 SSDS on it. Honestly, even if I were to build one now, I’d have a hard time justifying $3k+ on a Gen2 Mil-Dot 3-12x S&B. I’d probably do everything correct on the rifle and then top it with a more modern S&B (5-25, LT, GRID2, w/MTC disabled) for that price.

Awesome choice on going with a 40 though. Best of luck and make sure you toss up some pics so we can see what ya went with! ?

Well I have an Raven Built full "spec" A5 in 308 that is awesome....for my A3'ish I went 6.5cm and it has a barrel nut to make any other caliber an option.

CH Precision (Buck Holly) built mine with a turn around of just over two weeks, excluding shipping times. Work looks great.

the five shot group was made at 500 yards with XM118LR. One flyer (center of target) as I had .2 too far left. Disc is 8” wide.

love the A5 - you can’t go wrong if you decide to build one.
