Made it to 100 yards today

I have never taken my .22's as seriously as I should have but I have been working on my 10-22 in order to get as much yardage as I can out of it . My buddy took a Volquartzen picatinny rail and machined 25 MOA into it for me and we got it mounted today . This gives me about 4 MOA below my 35 yard zero and enough elevation to make it out to 350 yards . After assembling it we put a few targets out at 100 yards as well as a few steel reactive and spent a few hours shooting . I couldn't get it to group as well as I wanted too (2-3 inches) but I had a somewhat shaky rest and the wind was hammering us most of the day but the 4 inch round gongs became boring in a big hurry . We are putting together a couple more targets to put out to 250 yards so we can challenge ourselves a bit more and I am pretty anxious to get out and shoot some more . The real upside is that even with shooting match ammo it cost me less than 20 bucks to shoot several 100 rounds . I can see where this is gonna be a whole lot of fun .

I hear ya Michael, I am working on a 10/22 now with a custom A5 stock. I never took the "trainer" idea that seriously, until now with ammo costs and everything else the way it is. The 22 doesnt take the place of proper training at longer distances, but you can still work on your skills and have fun as well, all on a budget........not a bad thing at all.

.22's are cheap fun stuff.

The Parma club has berms from 25 yards out to 300 yards on the small bore range currently.

Come on out and shoot some of the .22 Tactical matches this year.

move the 4 inch gong out to 150 or 200 yards and it will get a bit sporty.

We are currently gearing up several rifles for the .22 tactical matches . The tough part is getting a scope with 40-50 MOA of total elevation adjustment set up right so that you have enough elevation to get out to 300 yards while still being able to dial it down to get to 25 yards .

I am fairly familiar with the Parma range as its where Dad and I held our match for several years and we had a membership there for 3 or 4 years . The downside is that it is quite a drive just to try and get some practice in .

Glad to hear you're enjoying the long range .22LR stuff, Michael. It's a lot of fun and I agree, the smaller the target at 200 yards the more sporty it is.

I keep down sizing my metal targets out to 200 yards. I now have a 3.5" x 3.5" gong I'll be shooting at this year when the weather breaks. I finished up last years 200 yard shooting on a 4" x 5" gong. That was fun!

I haven't made it out to 300 yards as yet so I'll watch your post on this with interest. I've gotten to 275 yards on an 8" x 10" gong ~ but I think I can get that size down quite a bit on my trip out to 300 yards.

Subsonic ammo in my humble opinion is the .22LR shooter's best friend for this kind of stuff. I like the Eley Sport a lot! 40g - 1085 fps - good ammo at a reasonable price.

Enjoy the long range trip. It is great fun!

2-3 inches is not a bad group at 100yd, especially if the wind is not dead calm.

I shot at the Idaho State IDPA match at Parma a few years ago. A very nice range and some good guys to hang with. They used to have a fellow that taught a seminar on long range tactical shooting. Wish I could have made it to one of his courses. I heard alot of good reports on the long range centerfire rifle events there. Hope to make it up there again soon, and I'll bring a rimfire along!

Both are Rem 40X. Top is a 308. Bottom is a .22 single shot.

Its a McMillan A4 . The Remington 40X singleshot rimfire has the same footprint as a Remington 700 .

Yep, Standard A4 for a Remington 700. Even has the Williams floorplate that was previously on my 308 prior to getting the DBM. That is the great thing about the 40X. Nearly identical in every way to my 308, but a whole lot cheaper to shoot. Unfortunately, not any cheaper to build up.

Yes . A Remington 40X rimfire is pretty much the same thing as a Remington 700 other than some minor height variation between the back of the action and the front . All Remington 40X's are built on the 700 action but are generally built for competition . Kind of like Custom Shop rifles . Unfortunately they do not make that particular rifle anymore as they make perfect trainers .

You might want to try this scope the Sightron 2.5-10x32, it has 120 moa of elevation adjustment. I am currently building a second 10/22 and this is the scope I am getting.

I would Love to try another scope but the fact that I own the Leupold that's currently mounted on it is a huge selling point after 10 months of unemployment . If I have time to shoot Ida's match I may just mount my IOR 3-18X42 on it to make sure I have enough elevation .

I hope you can make the matches out at Parma this year.

The regular matches will not have a target past 250 yards which should be no more than 40moa up from a 50 yard zero, regardless of ammo used.

Thanks for comming out to the Idaho State IDPA match.
Come on out to the 2010 State IDPA match.
Each year it gets good'er and good'er.
I SO'd the paper bag stage if that was your year, plus another 2 years on the Kubota.

There is a very good fellow who is still doing long range tactical shooting matches and classes at Parma. Check the Parma calendar. FYI, I am not a good fellow.

The Kubota stage kicked my ass! _ The "barking dogs" running attack style movers were a real challenge too.
