How are y'all identifying your mags? Right now I just have a 223, and a 6x45.
I am building a 6.5x223, pondering the Specialized Dynamics Grendel Group Buy, will build a 300 BLK, or Kurts 7.62x40.

So that's at least five, until another variant catches my eye, that will be using the same mags.

Right now I am using duct tape, orange = 6x45, camo = hunting 223 rounds, no tape = blasting 223 rounds.

Re: Mag Identification

Black (HK or Magpul) mags are for work and loaded for duty ammo
Standard issue grey mags are for practice/range/etc.

You have several options:

- P Mags are cheap. Use them for color coding (tan, black, green)

- The same can be done with a rattle can or paint pens found at your local hardware store. Using the pens, you can actually print the chambering on the bottom/side of the mag.

- Also, you could just leave everything unloaded and load the appropriate rounds accordingly

- If you are going to use tape, electrical tape comes in a variety of colors and will not leave as much adhesive residue as duct tape.

Re: Mag Identification

Pretty much what Pointblank said. Black and tan Magpuls for duty. I used to use green and red electrical tape for mag id.

Re: Mag Identification

I will try the electrical tape, the goo on the duct tape is why I used small pieces. Do not have time to load when needed, I have a farm, so I need to be ready ASAP when I need to dispatch a predator trying to get my critters, most times it is in the middle of the night and I am half asleep, that is why I want quick identification of mags, so I do not grab the wrong one.

If it's a magazine you may need RIGHT NOW!!, then the best place to store it is securely seated in the magazine well of the weapon.

Yep, but not with young kids, and their friends in the house.

Re: Mag Identification

The only mags I have that are this size are 5.56 and Grendel. The Grendel mags are Krylon painted dark earth below the mag well. It makes them easy to find. I use a sharpie on the sides of any newer 5.56 mags to note the date they were placed in service. Older ones are just there, but the dated mags will allow me to see how long they hold up..at least that is the plan.
