I liked the idea of shooting under cover in the rain, windy conditions and no light sensitivity, plus the fairly easy set up on the Magnetospeed.
So I tried the sport model. Used it once on a test session and had trouble.
The read out is a nightmare. It is constantly scrolling with a digital readout nearly indeciferable. I could only catch the shot velocity just after firing before it set up for the next shot. That was the only data I could understand. Usless. I would think the V3 model readout is much better.
The POI changed and could make group size suspect. Barrel weight does not seem like a good idea.
I'll stick with the PITA setup of my Ohler. Hope the printer keeps working as there a no repairs available for it.
Others may understand the display and make it work for them. Not so much for me.

I don't dissagree, I bought the adapter for the APP, to be able to load the data on the phone and then capture later. The sporter has the single button you have use to navigate through the menus and data. Now I shoot my groups, connect to the phone upload, re-connect to the sporter, and reset for next group.

I was at the range the other day and was shooting next to a fella that had just bought a LabRadar to replace his sporter. He commented that his sporter had just quit working one day and he wanted something more reliable. I thought it was great he bought a super expensive chrono, I was using my V3 and catching every shot... After a few I asked him how he was liking his new toy and he said he liked it and it recorded 18 out of 20 shots "and thats pretty good"....... Shit no that sucks.....

I went from a sporter to a labradar after my sporter wiring crapped out. It has a bit of a learning curve, and I made an optic solution for it (less work than getting a magnetospeed to work on all my firearms), but I’m very happy with the results and reliability.

You know what else sucks strapping something on your barrel, effectively doubling my load development time.

I've owned both you couldn't give me another magnetospeed.

But then again I can program a remote, do my own taxes, change my own oil, etc.... in other words I can read directions and have an IQ higher than an onion.

Or you could run a velocity ladder with the magneto, ten shots, and basically done. I guess you could look to tune seating depth, which wouldn’t require any chrono at all, but load development shouldn’t take long at all. The magneto flat out works and is the most reliable chronograph out there. Reliable data is the only good data and anything but the magneto is wasting time.

For only $100 more, you can buy a mount for the Magnetospeed that won't mess with your barrel's harmonics:

At this point, you're approaching the price of a LabRadar... so yeah.

That’s exactly what I was doing at the range. Seems to me it’s probably the best way to do load development that I’ve heard in a very long time, Also takes a lot of the potential error out of the process.

But at the end of the day, the OP was not really talking about lab radar I just brought it up because I found it interesting that that guy had a similar experience with a sporter.

If you have a magnetospeed the wiser mount is basically mandatory. I basically have chrono'd every shot out of my current rifle just because the labradar is that simple especially with the phone app. With my magnetospeed's if I was using anything bigger than my 260 every other shot it needed to be tightened or tweaked.

I currently have 590 rounds down my current rifle like I said I have used my labradar on almost 100% of those. The only ones it didn't catch were when I didn't turn it on or arm it, hardly it's fault.

just sold the magneto sporter and picked up a labradar. it was a PITA to get it to work with different brakes or not at all with a can. labradar is so much easier and already had a tripod to mount it on. Will never look back now.

I've used a V3 for 4 years now. Since getting the MPA RAT adapter, it's made life easier. However, I'm looking at LabRadar too, since some of the results I've seen showing disruptive air flow affecting the bullet as it passes so close over a flat surface.

I've lately had to increase the sensitivity for 6mm projectiles, and always for .223 pills. Other than that it's been reliable.

Agree. Been using a LabRadar for about a year now and shoot around 100-150 rifle rounds per week. I can count on one hand the total number of shots it has missed, (actually I don't even need a whole hand). In a year, that's an error rate of less than 1/10th of 1%. Good enough for me.
