What are the disadvantages of this system if any? Do you experience POI shift when mounted on the barrel?

What mounting options are there to keep the chrono off the barrel?

I run a Labradar just to avoid this stuff but yeah, many prefer the MS and as you said, you have a deal on a used on in sight.

Best of luck

I have used both systems with success, with a caveat. The Labradar works perfectly for me. My son and I share a system. If a fellow can’t afford one by himself, maybe go into partnership with a friend or relative. It’s not like something you have to use everytime you go to the range.

The Magnetospeed worked fine. That was until day I was using it on the .35 Whelen. On the second shot of the day with the unit mounted it shot loose before I noticed. The muzzle blast from the next shot destroyed the bayonet. Contacted the company and they were very nice but reported that the plastic parts can’t be repaired. Thus to get a replacement, I had to purchase a brand new unit. Magnetospeed offered me a 15% discount for being honest about how the unit was damaged.

I have the magneto speed V3. It is my first and only chronograph. I like it, although it does cause POI changes with some cartridges. I am looking at getting an arca mount for it like the one from wiser precision. I hope this helps.

I had the labradar and went back to a V3. With a can it was a pain. I know you can get a switch for it but didn’t want to keep spending more money. It does have poi shift but I don’t zero with it on. My rifle is “mostly” zeroed. I load develop then once settled on load I zero again without it attached.
