I was wondering what magnums would fit the bolt face of my M70 7mm RM? It's time to rebarrel and I'm looking Into different caliber options. I want the barrel to be around 18-20" so I can keep overall length down. I realize I lose velocity when I do this but since I just got my reloading set I figured I could load a faster burning powder into the case to speed up my velocities with a shorter barrel. Am I wrong in that idea? The gun will be suppressed so it won't destroy the girlfriends shoulder when she uses it. Thanks for the help.

Re: Magnum bolt face options

That bolt face will work with any of the belted magnums. I certainly wouldn't cut that barrel below 20 inches and 22 would be much better. I've never understood why people want magnums w/short barrels, sort of defeats the purpose, but to each his own. As for the velocity loss. You can load faster burning powder but the faster powders tend not to do as well with heavy bullets.

Also you can have a long barrel and a can. My 300 weatherby had a 26 inch tube before the suppressor. The only problem I can into with POI changed without the suppressor but this was a problems I knew I was going to have.

Re: Magnum bolt face options

The only reason for a short barrel is the trips through the alders where a 26" tube plus the 5-8" a suppressor adds becomes somewhat cumbersome... I'll just google search "belted magnums" then and see what comes up.
