Do you mean peening the breach face until it deforms the top of chamber?
Or possibly damaging the firing pin?

Actually my real issue is wind judgement, not body position or squeeze.

Even with wind flags, I still manage to miss the lull and drift off center.
All the dry firing in the world won't solve that problem.

That can happen with any rimfire if the pin makes repeated contact with the face of the breech.
Plenty of images to view if you search "peened breech face"
When the firing pin is harder than the barrel steel, repeated impacts will deform the barrel.
If the steel of the firing pin is too brittle, the pin will snap.

while using the suppressor on the .22 is a blast i have moved it to my base class rig, after talking to multiple Professional ranked shooters it was decided that they arent the way to go. sure they CAN change harmonics in the barrel over time but more so turning that can upright in the middle of a match puts all that crap in your action. vudoos are picky enough without adding in grit and grime.

April/May have seen some great matches
i won overall points leader for a club in north louisiana (for the season), and last weekend had back to back (sat/sun) victories. one match dropped 2 shots 95/97 and the other match 97/101 shots. trusting gear and ammo is starting to really pay off.
have been running SK long range but its starting to speed up a good bit with the temps and may go back to sk rifle match

Been awesome to read through this whole thread and see the leaps and bounds of your progress! Congrats on all the recent wins!

At this point it seems like you've got most of the suggestions I'd have had for you figured out: no suppressor due to the grit, figuring out which positions need specific focus to decrease wobble, identifying the root causes of your misses, and reserving mental space and time to execute your process (instead of trying to shoulder all the MD duties while also trying to win).

One suggestion I do have for you is to reevaluate the ammo you're using; I recently abandoned SK Std+ and RM because I saw that they couldn't print the groups I needed out past about 100-125 yards. Norma Match performed well as practice ammo, and Lapua Long Range is now my match ammo (roughly 1 MOA at 200 yds with 25 rds). Tuners can help group size where MV SD/ES isn't a big factor (I know you don't run a tuner anymore), but they can't address MV issues. Out past 150 yds MV spread becomes a major factor, and the only SK ammo I've heard good things about lately is SK LRM, which performs roughly similar to Norma Match but costs more.

It can happen with designs that don't address this issue. I'm not sure about the Savage, but neither Vudoo nor RimX will allow the pin to hit the breech; they're intentionally designed for dry fire. Same story with a CZ 457.

I use plastic drywall anchors to dry fire my CZ 455.
It also showed me that my firing pin was contacting the breech face.
Repeated impacts in the same spot cut through the edge of the anchor.

To check your rifle, apply white-out to the face of the breech.
Let it dry, then dry fire a few times.
If the white out is removed at the point of contact of the firing pin,
I would not recommend dry firing.

sweet, I screenshotted this and I'll bring it up with my buddy who is an excellent gunsmith and rimfire specialist and he can show me if it's suitable or not. if not idk what I'll do because I really like this gun so far.. savage b22 fwiw.

ill def take a look at the norma! the SK long range match is what i have been using since october-ish but im down to my last 300 or so rounds out of the 3k i bought.

so been a hot minute....
Life changes, (new job) now I'm off every Friday. So that's good, extra range time/travel time for matches.
couple more NRL22 wins think im at 4 or 5 for the season, had a PRS match a few months ago at Gunline (canton, MS) where things just didnt come together. i feel like mainly i swapped ammo from SK LRM to eley team the night before and didnt clean. so that was not so good of a showing - took about 40 rounds to get it right. That was embarrassing to say the least, not to mention Chris Simmons was in my squad. so it just added to it.

Today - 9/7/24 Gunline PRS22, i won! tho didn't expect that at all, i had solid first 1/2 of the match only dropping a few shots for the first 5 stages then i had a feed issue with mag, didn't think anything of it - next stage: catastrophic failure of said mag. These mag issues we figured cost me 4 shots on the day. while not alot, the level of competition there left little room for mistakes, as Gunline's newest employee (Chris Simmons) had made a challenging CoF. I fought through the frustration and cleaned the last two stages, one being some small crosses at 230yrds
using a Kestrel for the first time today...it was helpful. made it a point once got all the info into it and "trued" BC/Velocity friday to just do what it says. 100% monkey on a gun: crash course in trusting the equipment. i like the colors and user interface of strelok but the kestrel showed up and showed out. Extremly happy with it. (tho i wish it would do hold overs without having to use the HUD) *or maybe it can and i just dont know it yet. - work in progress.

but thats whats going on lately from the swamp.

Nice shooting and congrats Pocket!

It always seems to be the stupid little things that cause the most problems. Sounds like you fixed the issue and continued on.

The best advise I was ever given was that once the round leaves the rifle there is no going back. Once shot forget about it and move on.

Keep shooting and let us know how it goes. I am going down a similar path, though I have my RimX in the safe and have been going the airgun route. A different animal and a different challenge, though that is why we do this isn't it....... for the challenge and fun of it all.
