Haven't worked with the Manners, but I do know I like the HTG from McMillan as does Rob and he really likes the higher comb of the Manners. Haven't shot it, but may be worth looking into.

I run an A5 and a T4A, both with KMW cheekpieces and same bottom metal and spacer butts.
I honestly cannot tell you which is better, very similar, but just a little different. The differences are in construction, McM gets the nod for molded in color, and Manners gets the nod for strength.

I have handled the A5,and an A4 from McMillan they were ok, but-----I own a MCS T4, and an MCS T3. I prefer my Manners stocks. Manner's has good customer service, not saying that Mcmillan doesnt, and their turnaround is faster. When I build my next rifle it will probably sit in another Manners.

I dont get the $200 difference.They are very close in price.The gel coat on the Mcmillan is alot tougher then the paint on a Manners.Im not knocking the Manners but for my money the Mcmillan is the better finish.

Manners T4 $475 add adj cheek $615
Mcmillan A5 $564 with 1"pad add adj cheek $706

Manners MCS $415
Mcmillan HTG $407 add 1" BP $66 $474

The max difference is $91 for a loaded A5.Again Im not knocking Manners at all they are great stocks.I just dont see the huge price gap.

Thanks very much gentlemen.

I think the price difference may have been caused by where I was getting the quotes.

So, McMillan edges out with a tougher finish. Manners edges out with a bit tougher construction. Manners has great customer service (very important in my book), there's about $100 price difference, and there's a difference in feel which should be investigated.

Thanks very much all. I think I'll be giving Manners the nod for this build.

I use both, just depends on the exact stock design I'm after. ON my predator rifles I realy like the Manners SL, on the heavier rifles I like the McMillan Baker Special.

Both make good stocks. I have replaced almost all my McMillan stocks with Manners and AICS.

I had one too many very bad personal experiences with Kelly. Luckily he has some kick butt employees to make up for it. But not enough to gain me back as a customer.

I own a few of both i love both (i hate when people say this pick which ever one you want both are great )

I like the MCM molded in color better, I like the manners for being a little stiffer from the carbon fiber. but thats just a feel thing,

I just ordered two stocks and ended up going with McMillan through JW Precision. If Manners did the molded in colors I would have went with them. I really wanted a T4A and T3, but went with an A5 and HTG due to the molded in color thing.

Also, I was under the impression that Manners was much cheaper... when it came down to it, an adjustable A5 with molded in marble pattern (50 OD / 25 black / 25 tan), terry cross cheek, 2 flush cups and a stud, was only about $25 more than an equivalent T4A which is painted. That sealed the deal for me.

Also, the longer wait didn't matter to me because it was still shorter than the 4 months my Krieger barrel is going to take.

I go for manners but a few years ago we had a stock we had to remove from a Shillen rifle the first person glued the action in it was frosen with liquid Nitrogen then heated still stuck in the guy had it re painted along the lins we finaly started to get the stock and the action to start to come apart when snap the stock cracked in 2 straight through the bolt port. now on further inspection the idiot that refinished the stock had sanded through nearly all of the outer shell leaving it under a full layer thick it was a fuly adjustable prone stock i contacted McMillan on how we could try to reasemble the stock and they said send pictures as we were in Australia when they confirmed that it was one of their stocks they replaced it totaly including the 3 way but plate forend rail and adjustable cheek piece in molded arctic camo to boot. the stock did take a year to be replaced but it was 100% paid for by them including the postage here the only downside was the finish the molded in surface was abit rough in a few places and the white marks easily but that is what you call backing up our produce they even chased up the correct model of action to make sure it was 100% corectly inleted and also it had an ADL trigger guard.

That being said they are both awsome products but i prefer Manners but you cant go wrong with either.

Mercedes or BMW. Your preference. My first stock was a McMillan and I was very happy. Haven't looked back since. I got used to the A3 profile and it fits like a glove. I think their gel coat is a big value add: camo pattern that never fades.

i kind of agree with this. although i have no experience with Manners stocks i do with B&C and McM. all three of the last McM stocks i've bedded for customers had off centered pillar holes and when i redrilled the holes, there were some fairly good sized voids in the material. the last one was also noticably thicker on one side than the other in the action area and skewed the barreled action all the way to the right side with the barrel touching the channel and 1/4'' gap on the left side.
the action inlet needed to be milled out to fixe the off centering of the action. told the customer to send it back for replacement, which i'm sure they would have done. he really wanted to go shoot it, so it got bedded and came out fine.
i've never had a problem with anything off centered in B&C stocks to date, and i've bedded over 30 of those. the McM is a lot heavier(chunky comes to mind) and would probably be a lot sturdier than B&C.
The B&C does have the aluminum bedding block/skeleton which makes it plenty sturdy for 90% of the shooters out there. For the price of the McM, i was really suprised the first time a customer brought one in for bedding and the pillars weren't even installed. Even though the color is molded in on McM, all the ones i've handled, you can see the fiberglass cloth through the finish. all of the were light colored desert camo stocks.

this is just my experience with these two...YMMV

Manners uses more advanced materials thus making his stocks stronger. I would take strength over fancy "molded" in colors any day. I don't see McM parking Ford F250's on top of his suspended stocks....

Like I said. I own both, but given the option I will take Manners over McM and enjoy paying the bill because I know Im getting my moneys worth.

at one time i wanted an a4. i called mcmillan with all the basic newb questions. they were patient and detailed and we talked it all over. good experience. someone suggested manners. i looked it over online, had a few questions, called. great service as well. basic newb questions, i think it may have been tom him self, but he answered all my questions. it was good.

in the end the only tipping point was like everybody else says, colors vs construction. if i need color i know which one to choose, otherwise i think i would take manners for the strength. but then i am a total A4 fan, i love that square front end.

I'm glad I saw this thread because I was going to start my own. I've had my Manners T4A for about a year now and absolutely no complaints about it in any way. I recently got a McMillan A5 with molded in camo and as soon as I opened the box I realized I just paid for the name. As far as function, both stocks are pretty equal but the finish quality is the difference I see. There are sanding marks all over the McM and in several places the fiberglass is laid very poorly ie on the end of the foreend. I know it may be a little knit picky but when you pay that much for a stock I expect a little better. As someone stated above, the only thing McM has on Manners is the ability to do molded in camo. I guess I'll wait to buy another stock until Thomas gets that going. Good job Manners, keep up the good work! Oh and KMW hardware FTW!

I tried to tell you that I liked your Manners a little better from experience.

I think it's worth it though with the McMillan this time. The molded in Gap camo is pretty sweet.

I think Mcmillan has a better grip in general compared to the Manners. The Manners have a better cheek weld. The grip is a little small and not quite vertical enough on the Manners. The fit and finish i have to give to Manners also.

(my personnal opinion of the HTG vs MTS)

I really like the A series from Mcmillan.

I've owned a Manners MCS-t and currently own a McM HTG adj. The Manners was on a custom rifle that had more problems than you want to hear about. The smith hacked up the stock so bad you couldn't even tell what it was. One call to Tom Manners and he offered to fix the stock for free.

I like the HTG a little better than the mcs-t, that could just be because the rifle the manners was on was complete junk.

All in all, both are great stocks. Manners customer service is above and beyond what is expected. I haven't had to use McM customer service yet but I have no dought that they are top notch. Best bet is to handle them both and decide which one feels right to you.

I know Manners will make a thicker shell if requested, but is the Mcm lacking somewhere? Has it been shown somewhere that Mcm's break where Manners don't? I can't remember ever hearing of an McM breaking under normal or abnormal use. This is hair splitting at it's best.

I happen to really like molded in color, so if that is desired in a certain build then the choice is easy.

Not quite sure why you PM'd me about this, but as I stated earlier the McM does have the molded in camo which I like better. I've had my Manners to a few tactical matches now and I don't baby it nor do I drag it down the street but the paint has held up just fine. It hasn't chipped or peeled off anywhere. It's also had some pretty harsh solvents on it and I've seen no effect.

I've owned rifles with both. I think it's all personal preference. For me, I don't care for the McMillan as the few I've had the grip has been too small. Especially on the A-5. I wouldn't own one if you gave it to me. Others, such as the A-2 and A-3 are nice stocks.

I prefer the Manners as I know Tom and he's gone way above and beyond with customer service. I like the way his stocks fit, and I like the way they feel in my hand.

My money is on the Manners. But I would recommend you feel them both before you make an expensive decision like that.

editedlease nobody say the 2X4's were too close together in the Mcmillan video. The weakest part is the inlet.
