March 1-8x24 and 1-10x24

Howdy, I cant speak for those particular models but you can’t go wrong with March scopes (except the new 5-42) I’ve sold off all my others in favour of Marchs. Cheers.
I tried the March a while back, perhaps not the same models?

Sorry we were looking at 20+ scopes so unfortunately I cannot remember. Just want people to beware about the eyebox, unless they have fixed those issues.
Do you remmeber if you tested the new wide angle scopes or just their older scopes? Im looking at their two new wide angle scopes with high FOV
From what I’m told by our Australian distributor (who is one of the 3 in the world) they have pushed the limits too far with the magnification and the scope isnt useable above 30 power. When your paying 6K (aud) that’s not good enough and that’s why aren’t for sale in Oz. I don’t have trouble with eye box.
Did you compare the eyeboxes to competitive scopes with a similar magnification range?
The March-F 1-8X24 is FFP, the March 1-10X24 is SFP. These are not the "Shorty" models. I have only ever tried the 1-10X24 for a little bit and I thought it was just fine. I have more experience with the1-4.5X24, which is very popular in Service Rifle. I am not an LPVO aficionado, so I can't say much about their usability, but the 1-10X24 was great for plinking and target shooting. It was mounted on an AR-15 during the testing. My AR-10 wears a March 1.5-15X42, also SFP. It's a little bigger than the 1-10X24 and has a new technology objective lens assembly.
I have a fair amount of hands on time with both Shorty and original March LPVOs. They are generally very nice scopes and side focus in the original ones makes them very flexible. Reticles are a little dated, but functional. The biggest flaw is the lack of a day bright reticle on 1x.
I will say that if funds allow, the March LPVO to get is the new Shorty 1-10x24. I have both 1-8x24 and 1-10x24 Shorty scopes here at the moment, so I've been spending quite a lot of time with them.

March series of scopes are great.
I had a 5-42x56 HD scope, and returned it under warr, got a full refund. The issue was parallax VS diopter. When you set your eye relief correctly, and dial parallax for 100m, it's all unicorns and rainbows. Happy times. Then you focus on a target at 1000m, you can not get your eye box set, regardless of parallax, you need to slightly tweak your diopter lens / ring again. I didn't personally notice it, however 2 other people who used the scope did, and they both wear glasses.
Was the only scope effected, and they bent over backwards to fix it. Even sent me another scope to trial to see if I wanted to swap over.
The clarity beat s&b and zco. It was astounding. I'm not an optics engineer like others on here, but go thru my post history and I showed how we compared scopes.

The new March 1-10X24 with DR 1 reticle (FFP & SFP) has a daylight bright dot in the second focal plane; it stays the same size throughout the zoom range even as the FFP changes size.
I like it very much. It has a good solid feel to it and yet it is still short and light for its magnification range. I have shot it a few times in a 600 yard NRA match. Mine as the MTR-5 competition reticle with corresponding knobs. I'm an old geezer with the original set of eyeballs so the MTR-5 is perfect for the use I make of the scope. There are other reticles besides that one that will fit in riflescope and may be better suited to other needs.
Looking at the 1-8/10 FFP models with the FMC-1 reticle. Anyone have anything further to add as far durability goes? Mine would be mounted on a hard(ish) use AR15.

These tick all of my boxes in weight, length, ffp, mil/mil, PA, lume, etc. Seems to good to be true...

What the downside of these shorty scopes? I know they've gotta be trading weight reduction for something.
Mounting is a little tricky, since the objective is right up at the turrets. Depth of Field is a little on the shallow side, but or an LPVO it is not really an issue.

I have one coming in a week or two and will comment on the 5-42 myself once it is here. Meanwhile what is your reaction to the above claim that they are unusable above 30x?
How does the March 1-10 compare to the Razor 1-10? I just ordered a Razor for $1650 and so looking at other options.
What do you want to know. I just did a mini review of the Gen III 1-10, Shorty 1-10 and SAI 6 1-6. Going to take a bit to get my pics and writeup but would be happy to share any specifics of what I did test on.
Basically which do you prefer? Is one substantially better than the other? I bought the Vortex 1-10 to go with a Geissele Super Duty to make a "do it all" rifle and am open to suggestions if there's a better LPVO for the price ($1650).
Those are difficult questions to answer because they are subjective to the user and the intended use. I will put it this way:
- If my main focus of the LPVO is for 1x shooting, the Vortex Gen III is the clear winner as it has the best reticle and illumination for that use. Vortex also has a better/thinner outer ring of the sight picture which helps the scope to almost disappear.
- If my main focus of the LPVO is for long distance shooting with the ability to go to 1x on rare occasions, the March is the winner as it has exposed turrets along with adjustable parallax which my eyes like better at distance. However, keep in mind the March does not (yet) have a tree reticle option, I am using the dual focal plane reticle. So if you plan to hold your solution then the Vortex with the mrad reticle and tree is probably your best choice.

most I have currently is 30 on my Leica PRS, but I actually use 30 when shooting and spotting groups with 6mm at 400m and 22lr at 2-300. Mostly it is going to be used at the local 1200m range where spotting misses sometimes can be really hard from 800 and up.
