Dear Parents and Guardians,
The terrible tragedy that occurred on February 14, 2018 at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida has started many conversations at a state and national level. Students from all parts of our nation are creating ways to show solidarity to the victims, their families and also trying to raise awareness about school safety. One of the many movements that is being promoted is a National School Walkout on March 14, organized by the Women’s March Youth Empower group. This group is asking students to walk out of school for 17 minutes in recognition of the 17 people killed as a call for Congress to pass gun reform legislation.
In anticipation of Brockport student participation, our school administrators met with students to discuss their plans for the walkout and review school expectations. Our role as educators is to ensure our students are informed and understand the purpose and consequences of demonstrations such as this. We respect our students’ right to express themselves; however, ensuring the safety of students and staff is our top priority.
Students who wish to participate in the walkout must sign up in the main office by the end of the school day on Tuesday, March 13. These students may not leave class earlier than 9:50 a.m. or return later than 10:30 a.m. on the day of the walkout or their absence will be considered unexcused. Students must walk to the designated walkout location, which will be announced Wednesday morning. Students are fully responsible for making up all work they miss while they are out of class.
While the district is not taking a stance relative to the political aspects surrounding gun control, we want to ensure our students who wish to participate feel supported. Therefore, we have made arrangements to promote a safe and secure demonstration by having a law enforcement presence on campus and staff supervision.
Brockport High School students and staff have a rich mixture of different backgrounds and viewpoints. As our core belief states, we value integrity, diversity and respect for all. We appreciate your partnership in promoting acceptance, inclusion and understanding.

Thank you,
Brian Weller, Ed.D.
Principal, Brockport High School

Our school superintendent invited peeps to join a BLM protest back after the gentle giant was shot.

I replied.

A week and a half later I was asking her where her notice was promoting the solidarity with the two New York police officers executed inside their cruiser.

Crickets from her ever since, I think Im on ignore.

If they had this at my school my kids would be sitting with me in class all day.

Our school system has warned students that they will be suspended immediately if they walk out.

They are not doing it because of a pro 2A position. They don’t want kids to be sitting ducks should someone decide to act out

My kids weren’t walking out anyways. They all shoot..even my 10 year old daughter.

People with integrity follow the rules. People who respect all, would not disrupt class in this fashion. Diversity is an idiot buzz word.

Marxist tripe that means nothing and makes the weak minded feel good while demonizing anyone that doesn’t agreee with them.

Yeah group think!

We accept the individual unless they think like an individual.

"Individual" only applies to your look and actions not your beliefs in the liberal world.

Welcome to NY Frankly... Normally, Upstate is decent, but even where I grew up in WNY where it was half farm kids and half yuppies, it's gone soft (left). The school had a rifle team in the basement, still does... Yet shortly after the FL shooting, the popularity contest that's high school decided to follow the airheads out of school and make posters protesting gun rights and wave them at traffic outside of the school.

It's ridiculous what "educators" are allowing nowadays.

They are conditioning kids, they ar doing it while terrorizing them, prepping them to be good little quiet lemmings when they get older. Time to go Chaos on the system.

Spot on...

My kids know not to speak about the “evil” guns in the house. I’m amazed at how many parents have such a phobia about guns yet think nothing of letting junior play all of the ultra violent X-Box games. It is a fucking hoot. We have an X-box and my kids have zero shooter games. No desire at all.

I asked my 13 year old about this and he said, “Dad, when I want to shoot a gun, you take me. Don’t need it on X-Box.”
