How did you focus on that reticle from 1000 yards away?

It sure looks like your camera was closer.

For those of you that don't get it, I am kidding.

Is that an FFP or SFP version? I have been wondering how big/small the reticles get on the FFPs.

Okay. Now that my browser will edit, I can see that this appears to be an SFP model. At what magnification does the TMR read correctly?

Okay. Duh. I just saw the illumination switch, so I assume it is SFP. In that case, how do you like the illumination feature?

I keep telling myself that FFP is a more useful feature than illumination (and on the Leupolds, they end up costing about the same for comparable Mark 4s) but after shooting a non-illuminated reticle on a solid black silhouette Army zeroing target this moning, I kind of think I would hate to get a non-illuminated reticle. I don't want to hijack the thread, but I am literally looking at the Leupold site right now and not getting the sort of things I am looking for (like your picture, which is very informative).

It reads correctly at 14X. I have the same scope, been using it for several years.

I got bored and milled it. First milled it at .5 mils and got 1109.6 yards. Plugged in .6 mils and got 925.66. Sooo split the difference, went with .55 and got 1,009.81. I need a life

Funny you should mention that..
I was out yesterday evening testing both into the night at 250 yards on some trees

I think Leupold got the illumination right, at it's lowest settings, it's barely, barely, barely visible and does not obscure the target. I called Leupold tech support and they can not put illumination on the FFP scope.

I don't like having to run the SFP at max mag to get the holdover points correct.

I did ask them about a VX3 3.5-10x50 which has the same glass and coatings and putting a TMR reticle in an illuminated model which they can do. I can live with 10x on the top end if used for hunting. That could be a pretty good scope.

I recently picked up a Mark 4 3.5-10x40 FFP TMR with M5 turrets and really like it. I was pleasantly surprised, actually - better than I was expecting it to be given many of the Leupold comments on the Mark 4 line here.

same here, I had stopped buying Leupold years ago
And I grew up in an era of the "gold ring or nothing"

I tested in low light against my Kahles CL 3-10X50 and to (MUCH) my surpise the M4 was right there with it

Re: Mark 4 4.5-14.5 TMR reticle pic at 1K

My 4-14 reads at 12. It's an older model though. Reading at max power for a SFP is a definite plus IMO.

And yes illumination is a plus on black target but not necessary I just bracket the target rather than focusing on the reticle center and then hold off.
