Have the 1.1-8x with the M-TMR reticle. Great scope and is a perfect fit on my MK12 for my application, but I'm also anxiously awaiting the release of the 1-8x from USO. Would really like a daylight visible aiming dot and true 1x on the bottom end.

I've got one with the Horus reticle, really like the scope overall. Glass it great, amazing power range, etc.
If you can afford one then yes it's worth it. If the price tag is too high, wait a while, the new 1-6s hitting the market sound to be pretty nice.

I wish I had the illumination that the Horus version comes with, along with a standard TMR reticle too. Yes, the clarity above 3x is great but there is minor image distortion below 3x around the edges. Not dramatic, just there... The turrets are magnificent and my favorite design out of any of the scopes I own.
The biggest challenge I had was finding a cantilever mount I like that pushed it far enough forward on my MK12. I have a long neck and long length of pull anyhow, and I needed it further forward than my Badger mount could provide. DO NOT put it on a canted base, that's a no-go for a 1x scope. I ended up using the Leupold mount that is designed for the scope in the first place, and it's a good piece of gear anyhow.
I'm going to be putting it through the wringer next month on a trip out west chasing steel targets and coyotes. I only have a few hundred rounds with it so far, inside 300yds, and haven't been able to stretch it out there yet. I'll put up some more info on it after then.
Bottom line though, I could afford what I paid for it (still quite expensive) and I believe it's an excellent scope overall.

The new scopes from Leupold are excellent, the 3-18x, 3-25x, are all worthy and I know they are leveling the prices out now that they have established everything in the Tactical Market.
I really like them, the TMR is a good reticle, and in my opinion the 34mm tubes are making a difference. The new turret system is pretty neat as well, that is something I am looking forward to trying.

Thanks Rodman for your assessment. I really like the beefy look of the Mark 8 and the 34mm tube. I just need to get over the fact that I'm paying a premium for non-German glass. I'll keep my eyes out for one and try and snag one off the secondary market.

Are you running an angled base/mount?
What you are seeing is a peculiarity with 1x scopes (any <span style="font-style: italic">scope</span> starting at 1.1x or 1x that allows binocular vision with both eyes open) that is an issue with all such scopes, yet I've never seen this talked about anywhere.
The way a scope is constructed, the image you see will shift up or down when dialing elevation, so when looking "straight ahead" with both eyes open, there will be an offset between the "bare eye" image and the one the "scope eye" picks up. As long as this offset is small (meaning the scope being near optically centered), this is not an issue. The further you get from optical center, the harder it gets for the brain to get the two images to match. This is very much like looking through a misaligned pair of binoculars. (Note: this does not apply to red dot sights since they don't use an erector system like a scope).
Normally, dialing large amounts of elevation only happens at longer ranges, but you'll use higher magnification at those longer ranges anyway, so no problem here. The problems start when putting such a scope on an inclined base/mount, because then you're way off optical center at short ranges. The same thing might happen if the base is crooked and lots of elevation/windage from optical center is necessary to zero the rifle, but since you are mentioning that the image through the scope is "lower", I'd guess there's a good bit of forward cant in your setup.
Bottom line: <span style="font-weight: bold">Do not use an angled base/mount for a 1-Xx scope!</span> It's not a fault of your individual scope but a result of being off optical center at short ranges. In my opinion, everything ... I tried a 30mm version alongside the 34mm version of the same scope and it's night and day ... the 34mm beats the 30mm version hands down.

Look forward to your review. I am glad to hear positive things about Leupold. I had some of thier scopes in the past but moved to other brands. I would give them another go if I thought they made some steps in the right direction.

Look forward to your review. I am glad to hear positive things about Leupold. I had some of thier scopes in the past but moved to other brands. I would give them another go if I thought they made some steps in the right direction.

I ran the mk 8 1.1-8 with the tmr reticle. it was ok, i wish it would have had true 1x magnification and the price was a little more reasonable.

I do not have an issue with the 1.1x to be honest I do not really notice it.

No idea on when, but Mike has them for pre-order at CS Tactical for ~$3300 with the TMR and ~$3400 with the H-58. I'd say based on the MIL pricing I've seen that's about spot-on. Not cheap, but if it compares to the glass on the Mark 8 CQBSS and with that kind of range, it might be worth it for the right buyers.
It's pretty much identical stats with the S&B 5-25 for price, weight and length (37oz/16" Leupold vs ~38.6oz/16.4" S&B). And if you are MIL/LEO, it's no longer apples to oranges price wise. I think S&B MAYBE offers 10% off, but Leupold leaves that in the dust.

I'm eagerly awaiting the review from CS Tactical. Between the Nightforce 5-25 that is coming out soon & the Leupold 3.5-25, I can't wait. I'm a bit perplexed why everyone is so quick to write off Leupold on the tactical market for competing with Schmidt & Bender, Premier, etc. If I can get my hands on them side by side with Schmidt & Bender I will make my own decision.

I'm thinking those two reticles are offered due to military contracts. The others may be available in the near future.

I've had a few chances to mess around with them at work and they are very impressive. we are doing a couple different test right now with the 2010's before the PSR and M110 carbine kick off and when just looking through it, next to my old NSX the mark 8 makes my NSX, feel like its a barska, and this is coming from somebody who has had 5 difffent NF's
on a 20,000 meter range, we were just viewing a number of different objects, steel meter markers at 800, and 1200, old shot impacts could be seen at 1200 on the bright safety orange plate, we also got to check out a Hawk floating about 5 feet off the ground hunting at about 600 meters out, a heard of dear grazing at around 300 meters, and it was much clearer, crisper, and brighter than my NSX on equal power. condition were sunny, with rolling dark rain clouds at times, and at all light levels the mk8 really blew me away. scientific, absolutely not, impressive to me, and a couple other guys, yes.
the H58 recticle is not to busy the illumination is nice, the turrets feel good, the eye relief is so much more forgiving than my NSX, the Mk8 is what led to checking out one of our Mk4 ER/T 6-20 with locking turrets, checking it out, plus lowlights review was pretty much all i need to sell my last NF, and pick up one of Leupolds new 34mm's
talking to Leupolds MIL/FED program guys, its seems like they have been a few weeks out for the last few months now, its part of the reason i went with the Mk4 ER/T with locking turrets. when will they make it to market? who knows, but they do exist, we have them at work, and they are great scopes. especially if you can take advantage of their Mil program

That is the kind of review that I was looking for. I guess that the small number that have actually made it out of the factory has made it hard to find reviews and videos. But it is hard to pay that much for a scope that I haven't looked through, handled, or read many reviews on; even with the mil program.
