just a sharpie with unique "code" that i recognize. usually put it somewhere inconspicuous if possible. works for me. it helped at a match last weekend, i sat all my stuff down and my buddy moved all of it except my rear bag then someone else sat all their stuff and bags down nearby. so I was able to located and find my bag.
Touch-up paint is available in a rainbow of colors and includes a brush like a bottle of nail polish, but you buy it at a manly store like NAPA or Auto Zone not in the cosmetics section.

Silver sharpie usually does it for soft goods.

Like a lot of y'all, my days of using are stencil are over. I use a black or silver Sharpie depending upon the item marked.
I pee on it.

THis is a good idea, my last name is Luna so I couldn’t get a small crescent moon brand making the mark inconspicuous.
Got a local guy that does laser etching, can do metal plastic whatever, reasonable price and looks great
Cattle ear tag ink ( Z-tag, black) lasts longer than Sharpie & also good for covering scope nicks, etc. Engraver or white paint pen on magazines.
