Some folks do not understand but the concepts of worth, achievement, and legacy are some of the most important traits that motivate humans to succeed and become positive forces in their communities. That is why people open businesses, produce art, music and literature, and start families. In order to achieve positive things for their world and be remembered for it. That is exactly why socialism is such a bane upon a normal and functioning society, because it removes the very concept of 'worth' as well as personal responsibility.

Really the only unifying trait that they all shared, they came from all different backgrounds and cultures, was a massively inflated sense of self esteem, entitlement, and that the only reason they were incarcerated was bad luck, and it had nothing to do with their own actions and choices.

After the head shrinkers they interviewed the criminals, and in that context it was amazing how totally unrepentant they were, and how obvious it was that the moment they were released they would go right back and start doing the same crimes again with utter disregard for their victims.

Humility is absolutely key. Self esteem is poisonous unleavened with humility.

I would imagine if we could really solve the inner city problem that the homicide rate from firearm use in the US would drop to the level of other Western countries. Which would totally undermine the claim that the US's higher legal firearm ownership is the cause of the violence.

If you take suicide (about 60% of the 'gun violence' death numbers) and inner city drug/gang violence out of the gun stats, the US has one of the better gun crime rates in the Western world. Its all spin and propaganda unless you live in the hood-in which case its very very real.

If they are truly "mentally ill" then they are not and cannot be "responsible" for their actions.

Carrying that to the furthest extent, if mental illness causes those acts then lesser degrees cause all other acts of "evil" ( define evil anyway you wish for the purpose of what I'm saying)

If that's true then there is no sin or judgment ( legally or biblically) because "the devil made me do it" so its not my fault because ( insert lame excuse of choice here) is an adequate REASON those "events" occurred.

I believe the basic concept that these things happen because EVIL PEOPLE make a CONSCIOUS DECISION to do BAD THINGS.

Their reasons and motivations or how they got there don't really matter at that point but whatever they may be, "mental illness" or anything that removes or negates their own personal responsibility for their actions and the inherent consequences isn't one of them.

Even on Judgment Day, there is a legitimate group who are judged on the knowledge of right and wrong alone but the few who truly didn't have the mental capacity to do wrong ( consciously) were never adjudicated as sin in the first place and spared and that's a VERY SMALL NUMBER.

I'm sure mine is an unpopular opinion but I'm good with it.

I feel there is an important distinction between mentally ill, and mentally incompetent. You can be mentally ill, and still know what you are doing is wrong, and make a conscious choice to commit the act. If you are mentally incompetent, you had no idea what you did was wrong. IMO. If the act was murder, same result, send back to the creator for judgement.

my nephew was a time bomb waiting to go. his mommy babied him, and dad was too chickenshit to put his fucking foot down.

i spent a lot of time praying on it, and finally he came to live with me. i had that kid unfucked inside of a half hour. he stayed with me for 3 1/2 years. i saw him two weekends ago....he came running out and hugged me. his dad sent shitbird mom packing, and has met a wonderful woman who takes no shit. the kid now has a bright future.

all because parents failing to do their job.
