At least 1000 dead - burned to death. I don't believe in ghosts; I would rather see those souls in heaven, but if they are real I hope they haunt the **ck out of anyone taking advantage of this land-grab.

Can we please just go back to no internet, so I can bury my head in the sand and just assume this was a fire. Life was so less stressful/complicated then. Now, every event has an underlying corrupt spin on it. The corruption usually turns out to be correct. Why are people such shit?

This link to the Natl Weather Service archives takes you to a report on Hurricane Dora. I went through all these reports on that hurricane, and this one shows the storm to be closer to Hawaii than any of the others. Monday Aug 7 2023, 500pm HST.

565 miles SSE of Hilo Hawaii, NO coastal watches or warnings in effect, Hazards affecting land-NONE.
"Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles
(185 km)."

There MIGHT have been power lines downed by wind, I can't deny that, but the wind wasn't from a hurricane 565 miles away.
