like the title says i just saw a mauser dated 1890 can't make out any other markings, looks to be in decent shape given the age, so would it be worth the $100? don't really have much time to debate it since i'm going out of town tomorrow for a week or two, the tag says it's been there since nov 2011, should i take my chances it will be there when i get back, or just grab it and deal with it later. i know absolutely nothing about mausers, so i'm in the dark,.

From my view the condition of the bore and the caliber is most important.
Is ammunition readily available?
Do you reload?
Are you going to shoot or put it in the 'closet'?

Condition looks pretty good
Not sure of the caliber

Probably shoot it some but mostly historic value trying to get one rifle from each war and country

For $100 I'd be tempted to buy it - even as a wall-hanger that sounds like a cheap deal? Or at least it does from this side of the pond - deactivateds always seem twice the price of live firearms here!!

Well I picked it up ask a few guys about it while at the range they all thought it was a steal at $100. They thought it was an 8mm Mauser, but suggested to have a good smith look it over and check the head spacing for safety. Ill try to get some pic up later this evening

Is there a crest and writing over the chamber? Is the bolt turned down or straight? Is there lots of pitting and rust?
Most South American Mausers were chambered in 7x57 as the Spanish. The Argentine was chambered in 7.65x53.

I'm thinking snap it up. The only production model going in that year for Mauser was the 1889 Belgian in 7.65x53. They are a 'smokeless' high pressure rifle, although not near as safe to go high pressure with them today. I wouldn't have any problem using a starting load out of any reloading book to shoot them with. Hornady also makes this chambering, and it's not that hot. I also thought I saw it in Federal blue box, but I haven't seen that for years, so I don't think they make it anymore.

ok well here is some pics i was able to snap, sorta crunched for time leaving for vacation in the morning, haven't had time to clean it up, but just to get some ideas of what i've got here.

The arabic numerals on the rear sight ramp were also common on the Persian rifles.
Would be good to see clear pics of all the markings when you can. Looks like there's not much left of any markings on the ring?

The split rear bridge and no 'non-rotating' extractor is a dead giveaway for a reworked '88 Commision rifle.
