mauser rechambering

Re: mauser rechambering

Do you mean 458 winchester magnum?
It requires opening up the boltface, change of barrel(or maybe rebore?) and most likely the smith needs to do some magic to get the rounds to feed smothly from the magazine.

Re: mauser rechambering

With a military contour barrel I'm 99% certain there isn't room to rebore it. The round will fit in a regular action but it will need help feeding.

The bolt face needs to be opened, and the follower will need work. It will probably only hold 4 rounds when you're done.

There are better solutions for a 458 WM rifle.

Re: mauser rechambering

no I mean 45 winchester magnum case length 1.198, case dia. .452

ammoguide.com saya it is a candidate for rechambering?

Any help would be greatfuly appreciated.Ammo is available for

$34.00 for 50 rounds. thanks again

Re: mauser rechambering

In that case, then yes, you can do it.

The case diam you listed doesn't sound right though, it sounds like the bullet diameter.

A rimless 45 cal pistol based case is probably close enough to the .473 bolt face to work, but opening it up can be done.

The magazine will require the follower to but cut and a block installed in the aft section to take up space so that the rounds feed properly.

Now you need a .452 bore rifle length barrel. If it was me, I'd just load 458 bullets into the case instead and shoot them through a standard .458 rifle barrel.

What's driving that case choice?

Re: mauser rechambering

450 Bushy is going to have the same issues, so is 458 SOCOM, so's the 44Kunz (my dad's wildcat that does the identical thing)

Our case is identical to the concept of a 450 Bushy, except we did it with a 30-06 and we did it in 2002.

The test mauser fed miserably until we put a block in the mag well and cut the follower so that the cases would fit properly.

If you want feedback on the effectiveness of any of the 3 you have ballistic triplets, the 44Kunz and 450 Bushy having more capability with the hottest loads because they have a little more powder capacity than the SOCOM. All will shoot heavy subsonic bullets very well, the downside to the 458 caliber rifles is finding a bullet under 300 grains that you can launch fast.

The 44 has the benefit that any 44mag bullets will work and you can buy them off the shelf down to 180 grains without any trouble. The velocity ranges are 180's @ 3000fps all the way down to 500's @ 950fps. It's like a 44 auto mag with an extra 15gr of powder capacity.

The downside to the 44 vs. the 45's is that finding bullets OVER 300 grains generally means you have to cast your own. We shoot 460 and 500 grainers from gas checked, very hard lead alloy and it performs the same as a 500gr solid copper round.
