I have read and read, looked at article after article. I really can't get a decisive answer. What is the maximum velocity one can achieve from a 140 grain amax for example out of a creedmor. I just received a gap crusader w/ a 27 " bartlein 8.5 twist, only reason I ask. I am 400 asl so the more the better for 1500 yard shooting. I have been very busy traveling over the holidays and have very little time to test loads but I found a good load at 42.2 h4350 with the 140 amax. It was raining so I could not chronograph. Group measured .186" at 110 yards. With no signs of op. sorry if I come across as ignorant but I have no experience with velocity #'s on the creedmor. Thanks

Re: Maximum velocities for 6.5 creedmor

Aim,

I think finding a load that is accurate would be more important than finding one that gives max velocity. The difference in required Elevation would be minimal.

Your 42.2gr with a 27" barrel was probably shooting at ~2815fps.

Re: Maximum velocities for 6.5 creedmor

The highest charge I tried with my Creedmoor was 42.9gr. The pressure was fine, but I got tighter groups in my rifle with 42.4gr. 42.9gr would shoot at about 2860fps.

I don't know what a max load would be though, sorry.

Re: Maximum velocities for 6.5 creedmor

I get 2930fps from H4350 and the 140 AMAX from my 26.5" barrel. No pressure. It's got a little more powder than yours.

Re: Maximum velocities for 6.5 creedmor

I'm shooting the 140 Amax at 2790 with 42gr of H4350, wolf primers and Hornady brass. I used to load hotter, about 2900, it wasn't any more accurate and it would loosen the primer pockets pretty quick.
