I wanted to get some feedback from people with McMillan A5 and A4 stocks. Also if you could post pictures that would be great. There really isn't any place nearby that I could check them out.

Which one out of the two do you guys prefer what are the pros and cons of each? From what I can tell the main differences are the shape of the front section, and the weight. The rest of it looks pretty much the same to me. I think I like the flatness of the bottom of the A4 more. I guess to me it would seem more stable when resting it on a shooting surface. However I would probably be shooting mostly with a bipod.

Re: McMillan A5 & A4 Stock

I prefer the A5.I have never owned an A4 but have used them. I like the A5 better because it has a lower barrel stance(lower center of gravity) which to me is easier to control and the slant of the A5's forearm allows you to adjust your point of aim by sliding it back and forth if you are off supports.

Re: McMillan A5 & A4 Stock

Thanks for the links, but does anyone have any feedback on them or has used both and can comment?

Also the search function is lacking. Even if I type in A-5 and search for subject only I come up empty handed.

Re: McMillan A5 & A4 Stock

I've had both and enjoyed both, on the same rifle. Like sp95 said, there is more meat in the A-4 from bottom of barrel to bottom of foreend, and the A-5 does have lower center of gravity. 7mmRM is right; its best to sit in the driver's seat of both. Nothing like waiting 5 months for a handle you pay 750 for, just to sit behind another at the range and wish you had ordered different. If I could build tomorrow with only those two to choose from it would be a difficult choice, probably the A-5. But every time I get behind the A-4 I love the hell out of it. It just feels like everything comes together. Sorry that probably wasn't very much help.

Re: McMillan A5 & A4 Stock

C- You can check out just about any of the McMillan stocks at Cherry Ridge. I have an HTG, A3 and A4 and will have a Manners T3 in a couple days. I am pretty sure that there are other NJ resident Hide members with any other stock you could think of (IIRC Tigerbikes has at least one A5). I suggest you post up such a request in the member link up subforum.
