MDT AICS Mags and BR Kits

From what I have seen, there are a few solutions, and none that work for everyone. Some guys have had luck running a modified PVA 6BR/Dasher Mag Kit, other have tried modifying the Primal Rights Kit (less success) and we've recently heard of guys just running a weaker spring, same follower and slightly modified feedlips to work correctly. Are you running a straight BR or one of the variants?

I am running both the 10rd and 12rd MDT mag with modified primal rights kits. One note is that the follower fits better if you use the mags that have binder plates.
You will have to shorten the spring and the spacer on the 10rd mag, and on the 10 and 12 rd mag you will have to file the follower, file flat the notches in the side of the follower because they do not line up with the ridges in the MDT mag, and youll likely have to narrow the front of the follower a little because its too fat for the mag body. Works well though and i have not had any issues.

They are releasing a dedicated small cartridge mag. Not sure when though, last i heard was maybe February.
We are doing a small, beta test run of magazines now that will be going to our sponsored shooter team members who are running the BR, Dasher or BRA. After receiving feedback and design notes from those shooters, we will then make the necessary changes and release a kit for you guys! I am hoping for mid February too, but may be a little later depending on feedback time.

Fitted my primal rights mag kit to the 12rd MDT mag.

had to trim down the width of the front of the follower to the same dimensions as the stock follower, and then flatten off the back of the "U" cut portion in the middle.

fine tune the feed lips and spring location on the bottom of the follower and it works well.

Any plans to do a mag for the 224 Valkyrie?

Just received my MDT 12 round mags. Haven’t had time to work with them yet, but out of the gate, they would not feed dashers from Impact actions. I was so hoping these would not have to be modded like the Arc’s.

If you'd like, I can send you a magazine spring to try? The weaker magazine spring has worked for some of our shooters, but I have not had any luck with it personally.

No need if you don’t think they will work anyway. I got 4 of the 12 rounders hoping to use them in my BRA’s for the 2019 season. we only opened one of them to see how they would run in the Dashers. Not even close to working. They just nose straight into the back of the mag. It looks like they’d need a fair amount of work.
It took a lot of modding to get the ARCs to run w/o fouling. I don’t want to do that to the MDT’s.

Well in saying that I have had no luck, doesn't mean that we do not know of other shooters that have got them to work. We should have a better solution available for you soon!

I have 2 of the 12 round MDT mags with the PR kits in them. I shot a south central NRL Border War match Saturday and they fed great. I can get 13 rounds of 22BR in mine. I used a small bastard file to taper the front of the PR followers and a small round/rat tail file to make the grooves in them for the extra ribs in the MDT magazines.

...following as my br should be finnished soon...

I made some insides for a 5 and 10 round MDT mag last week for my Tikka, I've been using the HRD AW kits in my other rifle with a Stiller action but obviously the AW Mags don't work in the Tikka. I used the original spring, just made new followers and a spacer for the rear. To this point they feed beautifully and there's no issues with the follower cocking or the rounds nose-diving. I haven't riveted the spring on yet but it doesn't seem to make a difference. i did need to snip a little bit off the end of the spring in the 5 round so it fitted well, the 10 round just worked straight up.

I gave these mags a run today and had no issues, definitely not a torture test but both fed as smooth as butter. Given the price in Australia of the MDT mags is about half what an AI mag costs, they would be my pick. If MDT sells them already set up, even better.

Only issue I ran into was with the 5 round, the baseplate wasn't folded as flat as the 10 round one and wouldn't clip into the AICS magwell before the baseplate hit. I flattened the fold in the mill vice and that fixed it, took all of a minute or so.

@MDT_Josh will there be a mag kit offered from you guys to convert the .308 pattern mags? Or are the new mags using a new box as well?
I've got a 12 round I'd like to convert for a .224 valk.

Not as of yet, and we're just working on getting the 12 rounders up and running first. Will re-evaluate when things stabilize a little.

The .224V is under development too, but the little round may be a tad on the small side to run really consistently with this magazine.

This is fucking bullshit and deceptive. Don't take orders for shit that you don't have in stock. At least say that it's a backorder on your website.

It says "out of stock" when you try to order nexusfire. The MDT guys are first rate, and hugely involved in precision rifle shooting. Definitely not deceptive.
Not sure when the 6br mags will be out but I have had issues with both the kits out for aics mags made by other companies. With all the platforms out there I don't think it's easy to design a mag specifically for BR family. I would guess MDT is making sure they have bugs worked out before shipping.

It didn't say out of stock when I ordered 3 about 3 weeks ago. I called after a week and was told three weeks and here I am, no mags...

If it's that big of a deal, call them and cancel the order. I had to cancel my order after I realized the BR mags would not work with my
Axiom action. They refunded me in about 48 seconds (give or take a minute or two).
After that you have two choices:
1- Buy other mags and convert them
2- Design and manufacture your own mags

I ordered 4 or the BR mags (2 for me and 2 for a buddy) and they shipped right away. They are the absolute best solution for Br based cartridges out there and I have tried the Primal Rights kit, PVA Kit, HRD Gear AW kit.

There is no dicking around with the MDT mags, load and shoot just like it should be.

They are in the wild - they probably just sold out immediately.

I do play on trying a 419+4 on them - even is Josh tells me they won'r work.

Just as a heads up for guys needing a quick fix, I was able to get MDT .308 poly mags to feed BR and Dasher flawlessly. Most guys have those laying around and should make for a cheap temporary solution while you’re waiting for your metal mags.

I have a couple of the new Altus +2 Dasher extensions that I’m going to try and make work. He said the same thing to me, LOL.

I dont really want the capacity it is more so I can get the full 12 in there without having to try. If I can squeeze in 13 even better.

I am sorry to hear that you feel that way and we do not mean to be deceptive or misleading, in fact, we always strive to be open and honest about what we are doing and producing. In the spirit of being honest about these magazines, the reason that the shipping times are longer than expected is that we vastly underestimated the market demand for these magazines and didn't produce enough on our initial run to fulfil the crazy amount of orders we got in a short amount of time.

As @kindabitey said, if you would like to cancel your order, either call us at 1-604-393-0800 from 8 am to 5 pm PST, submit a support ticket by following this link or email us directly at [email protected] ! We'd be more than happy to refund your purchase and make it up to you :)

Bummed to see these won’t work the the Curtis actions.

Any particular reason they won’t work? Just from glancing it looks like the Curtis strips rounds from the mag like any other push feed action.
