MDT Chasis for Savage .308 SA

I am thinking of upgrading to a MDT chassis (ESS) for my Savage .308 SA (blind magazine). I was wondering if anyone has made the jump and was it as easy as they suggest on their videos? I will need to buy MDT magazines as I only have the internal blind magazine the Savage comes with.

Appreciate any suggestions or feedback.

For the top bolt release, yes it is that easy.
For bottom bolt release, it is that easy just more difficult to get the bolt out.

The hardest part was removing the box for the blind mag. Put a Savage SA in the Oryx.
As far as mags go, they don't need to be MDT. Any AICS mag should work.

Yeah but the MDT AICS mags are soooo sweet. The Savage actions are a little "rattle chattery" right out of the box but the MDT chassis and the polymer mags tighten things up and with a little lube the bolt runs much better than right out of the box.

Haven't found anything about MDT I don't like and the match between the Savage stuff and MDT chassis is pretty sweet. I'm so hot on this I am desperately trying to talk myself out of a Savage 110 in .338 Lapua in an MDT chassis.

They are nice, own one my self when I bought my Oryx.
Then decided on rebarreling to 300WSM instead of 7mm-08. Mag works good in my MPA 6.5CM though so no loss.

unless you are set on the ESS, MDT has a new chassis coming out at shot, might not hurt to wait until then to see what that looks like

My 12lrp (same bolt pattern as your 10) now riding in an MDT ACC. Top bolt release is that easy, plug and play. Running MDT steel mags, and load as reliably so far as my darkeagle 10rd mags.

It really is that easy. Remove stock, remove blind magazine (in your case), drop action in, tighten screws. MDT has directions on all of that, including order and torques and such.

I actually got the MDT LSS- XL2 on a black Friday deal for a Savage SA10.
I'm a lefty so I had to cut the chassis for the bolt handle.
I did have a problem with the mag well.
Basically the mag well sets the thickness of the backing plate forward . So beings I removed the backing plates from the mags the tips of the bullets ride under the action and would not feed. Reluctantly I moded the feed ramp with a dremel tool.
Everything is fine but wish MDT would have moved their mag port back a bit in design. I don't have the plates anymore but I think they weren't more than .100"

These are compatible with all AICS-pattern bottom metal and chassis systems, but most common actions such as Remington 700 and Savage 10/11 will require modifications to the receiver (i.e. notching out the bottom of the feed ramp) to prevent the bullet tips from catching on the bottom of the feed ramp (see photo below). DO NOT order these magazines without a full understanding of this.

What is the size of your rear Butler Creek cap?

I have never seen this before.
My Savage came with Accurate Mag bottom metal and I bought extra magazines from them and took out the (binder) plates and they worked perfect.
Savage was on the ball when they had the stocks they used enletted to work without messing with the feed ramps.
My loaded rounds are over 2.95"
The bolt still clears the back of magazine on factory stocks from Savage.

I’ve seen that issue with Remingtons a few times but the 10/12 kinda has me baffled.

I remember being kinda peeved when I moved to AI mags on my 11 at how much COAL capacity I lost from regular Savage mags.
I can generously clear the 2.95 length 260 cartridges through that action both in my current XLR and my previous stock with PTG bottom metal.

Maybe the 10/12 have a different feed ramp than model 11’s?

I didn't take it that way at all.
In fact I really didn't know.
So I learned something.
My 260 chamber is throated long so I need all the mag length I can get and 140's can easily run over 2900.

I haven't got to shoot it in the MDT yet and I'm hoping for good results.
I put a Magpul PRS gen 3 on it for now.
