Hi, I've been a long time lurker, lots of googles lead me here for some great information. Now I have a question I couldn't find an answer to yet.

I'm looking for an optic for an SPRish AR-15. Realistically I'm going to punch paper with this out to 500 yards, so I know almost anything can work for this but I want something that is not too bulky or fragile for field use as well.

These are my requirements:

* Medium Power (Max 10x)
* Mil-dot or similar reticle
* Matching turrets (moa/moa or mil/mil either is fine)
* FFP
* Illuminated reticle (daytime illum not needed)
* Less than $1000

I'm not sure it exists! The best I have found is the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32 but the price is a little high. Looks worth it and I may just save up for it but looking for other options as well.

Other scopes that come real close, and that I might settle for include the SWFA SS 3-9X (no illum) and the Viper PST 2.5-10x (SFP).

I'd love to hear of a scope I haven't found yet that meets those requirements. I'd also be open to input on which way to compromise.

Nice! Thanks. That IOR is on sale from Rainier Arms for $965, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on that one. Thanks again.

Make sure it's the FFP model with exposed knobs as they have 3 variations; one sfp, one ffp covered knobs and one exposed knobs.

Ah...yeah, I just noticed myself the one on sale is the SFP with covered turrets. I'm not finding the FFP for under $1200.

Re: Medium Power FFP Iluminated Scope?

The SS 3x9 with the new mil-quad reticle is a heck of alot of scope for the price. I have one on my AR. While it may not have illumination, it's got all the rest of your requirements in spades!!

You can also get the mil-dot version on the group buy or find a few on SWFA's sample list at a reduced price.

Yes I was very close to going that. Probably I could make do without the illumination. I *still* might buy the group buy on the 3-9 mildot just because its such a good value and I can use it on another rifle.

But I found an excellent used IOR on the board here so I'm going with that for the SPR. Thanks all!

Re: Medium Power FFP Iluminated Scope?

The Mil-Quad in the 3-9 SS was specifically designed to be used without illumination and it shows. It's very visible in low light conditions even down to 3X. Of course in complete darkness an illuminated reticle (some of them, at least) has an advantage but it needs to be really dark before you're left wanting with the new 3-9.

Re: Medium Power FFP Iluminated Scope?

I don't think you can go wrong with the SWFA SS 3-9x. I know it doesn't have the illuminated reticle but wacha planning to shoot in the dark?
