I saw on the MATEN website their quote "• Priced lower than most competitor’s forged sets." And that made me think that the MATEN must be forged but since they did not explicitly say that, I sent them a note and asked them. After two queries, they did finally explicitly state that the MATEN is not forged. However, their definition of "forged" differs from my understanding. Their description of "forged" is what I would describe as machining a cast part. I have pasted their e-mail below. Does this sound right to you?
Scott,
We have two different ways we manufacture our parts, either out of billet
material (which is a solid block of metal that is cut into the piece) or out
of forged material (metal that has been melted and then poured into a mold
and then cut into the piece). Our Maten product is NOT forged, it is a
billet product.
Thanks,
Tam
