Mega SC Upper

I have been trying to build a rear charging AR for a month now. I was wanting a Rainier billet upper or maybe a Seekins upper. But they have been out of stock for a while. I was suggested looking at Mega since I am getting a Seekins lower. Was told it would match up good. Started looking at Mega and noticed the side charging setup. It looks like a great design except no dust cover. I am build a rifle AR with a 20in barrel nothing I will be dragging around in the mud so I think it would be a good setup with optics on the top too.

They are not in stock at Rainier either. Does anyone know where I could find a Mega SC Billet Upper? I have searched the web and found two places but one is on vacation and the other has not returned my calls and emails. Any suggestions?

Rainier is probably the best place. They seem to get consistent shipments from mega. I got all my mega stuff there. I got on the email list so I was notified when back in stock. They have the young mfg side charging bolt carrier too

I got the young mfg bolt from Rainier they just out of the upper. Talked with Mega and they don't have any coming for month/months.

I don't know of anyone that has the Mega side-charging uppers in stock right now (or that has had them for a while...I have a buddy who has been looking for about 5 weeks now). Your best bet may be posting a WTB thread here and possibly BARFCOM or M4carbine about picking one up or just watch the for sale sections of those forums like a hawk.

If Rainier is telling you that they don't have any and Mega themselves are saying they don't know when they'll have any back out to the market...it may be a LONG, LOOOOONG while before you see any unless you can just get lucky tracking one down.

The wait will be worth it though. I would contact all Mega dealers and ask, if you really want one quick. I like the side charging upper, just wish it was on the other side.... here's a friends setup

I have always liked the SC too.
Question:
Do you need the rear charging handle or can it be eliminated and/or that area plugged?

Jp rifles has side charging uppers but they are expensive.

You do not need the rear charging handle.

I have seen plugs in picture threads, but I have not found them myself.

I know Mega does not offer plugs for their SC.

I feels it's more convenient to just install the rear handle, it doesn't hurt....

Look at the Quentin Defense SC. They look identical with the exception of the rear which is tapered and mates up better with a milspec lower. The front is also tapered so forearms with anti-rotation tabs will fit. I have a Mega SC but my next one will be a QD as the design is slightly better.

I have a QD billet lower on order. Went with the QD over Mega because of the threaded bolt release pin and other features the Mega doesnt have and I didnt want the ambi bolt release. That and the US Army version looks great; QD is also mechanically engraving the other side of the magwell with a US flag for a small charge.

The Mega SC is cool, but I don't like how it matches with the GTR-3H billet lower. From my understanding, this option was the best fit. As you could see, the lines near the rear of the upper are all out of line connecting with the lower. It did have a nice fit with no gaps, but the upper is so wide that it does not look natural with the connecting lower...

Thanks guys for all the info. I found out that Alexander Arms sells them too. But none have them in stock. I wonder if their are any more dealers for this upper. Wish I could contact the manufacturer.

Call Rainier. They do the highest volume with Mega, and have a very good chance of getting these first. But, if you never put an order in, you'll never be in line for when they do come in...

I have placed a order with three dealer. Apparently it is the same upper just a different name. Rainier, Alexander and Quentin Defense.

Any other suggestions? besides wait

Fulton Armory SC uppers are worth a look as well, they don't have the billet look but IMHO blend nicely with standard lowers. This is a 6.5 Creedmoor but you get the idea!

I think the OP wants an AR15 style upper...The Fulton Armory upper you mentioned is for the larger 308.

While the picture posted above is for a Titan/308...Fulton makes an AR-15 side-charger as well as seen here:
