Certainly she must face all the legal consequence of her actions. But she should also lose her job and her family should let her know the shame she has brought.
How can you endanger your child that way? Fine, if she was day-drinking, she should not have been driving. Uber is a text away.
But also, she should not have been drinking to that point or level of stupor while being the sole adult with the child. If she wants to get her drink on, get the kid with a baby sitter or the family. Anything but this.
Grown-ups in my life drank. And knew when to stop. The only person I saw drunk was my first step-father. We were on a chartered fishing boat out of Mission Bay, California and the motion of the boat and the beer he was drinking had their way with him. Which I thought, even at the time, was ironic, considering he was a second class boiler tech aboard the USS Ogden.
And yes, my mom was royally pissed.
