Suppressors Melted tarp on suppressor

Hot suppressor kissed tarp and now there is melted tarp on the side of the suppressor. Wiped some of the melt off but there's still quite a bit of it stuck on the suppressor. Any best practices or experiences?

Internet sleuthing says get it hot again and use cardboard to wipe it off. Rinse and repeat. Others say to use Acetone and Heat to get the crud off. It shouldn't affect the suppressor, right?

I have not faced this specific dilemma, but that is my initial instinct. Maybe someone with actual similar experience will chime in.

I was going to say boil it off if you don't want to use an actual flame . but fire is good .

Enough acetone may eat some of the finish off the can, but then again, so will fire.
Try a heat gun

i would think an oven would be good for temperature controlled heat. then scrape off gently?

Wrap can in tarp, double mag dump, enjoy new even, complete coverage finish.

If you fired after the goo got on it I will be surprised if finish is not already compromised.

If you use any sort of abrasive pad to remove it Ill be surprised if it does not remove or "shine" the area.

Boiling sounds good if tarp will melt at 212 degrees. Steam will get you more heat if you can steam it off.

More shooting will probably charcoal it and and it will flake off but every time Ive done similar with hot items it leaves a different appearance - granted my experience is only with muffler pipes.

Best of luck, hope it cleans up. Id be pissed about that - thankfully my state bans my owning one so I wont ever experience it .

Worst case have manufacturer refinish it.

My suggestion, clean best you can, than buy a cool ass insulating cover in the most operator of colors. It will cover the blem, keep it from happening again, make you look cool.

I've done this so many times. In most cases, it flakes off eventually.

If you REALLY want it off (without ammo expenditure), use a heat gun and scrape it off with a piece of cardboard.

Some of my cans are beat to shit from use so it wouldn't bother me too much.

I had something similar happen with a micro fiber towel. Throw that dude in the oven at 400F (ain't gonna hurt shit but I did pull the o-ring seal just in case)) on a cotton rag (don't want that crap dripping on the racks, etc.) wait 20 minutes, and wipe off the goop with another cotton t-shirt, shop rag, whatever. Just make sure the rag is cotton and not something that will melt!

Ask the manufacturer for suggestions. Certainly to know what not to do to your can.

I'd call mfg. but I think heating and wiping is probably gonna be your best bet because if it's bonded to the finish then you're gonna risk removing that too most other ways I'd imagine.

I suspect you'll have a mark there from now on but all my best cans wind up with marks and scratches over time anyway.

I'm going the other way here. Freeze it in a deep freezer to a little below zero and then tap it off with a poly scraper. Might not work at all, but what do you have to lose?

Quick update: went to the range to do some cold weather drills. Did two mag dumps through the suppressor and the tarp melted enough that I could wipe it off. I threw on a Tab Gear suppressor that I had picked up and now having no issues.

Keep in mind that suppressor covers will melt. Short barreled rifles, especially if burning a lot of powder in the can are a high risk.
