Has any one put a Falcon Menace on a rimfire? I'm wondering if it will hold up. I don't see how, but I have read that rimfire recoil is tough on optics. Regardless, its getting mounted up and I guess we'll see how it does. I was just wondering if I should be prepaired to replace it in the near future.

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

Where did you read rimfires are hard on scopes?

I've heard airsoft and spring pellet guns being hard on scopes, but never heard of a rimfire that would abuse a scope!

+1

maybe its because they have just enough power to go in but not out, and they bounce around all over inside

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I don't recall exactly where I read it. I guess this means I made it all up. But no seriously, there are scopes that say specifically they are "rimfire rated".

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

Ok, I guess what I'm gathering from the pool of over flowing wisdom is the Menace on a rimfire = good to go. Thanks guys, I knew you'd come through for me!

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

you'll be fine, I used two different falcons on a lightweight .30-06 and both survived.

I'm going to put one of their 1.5-5 one my carbine one of these days when i've got some extra toy funding, just for the hell of it.

BTW- midway has the 3-10x40 weaver tactical on sale again, and IMHO they are worlds above the falcons. $299 is an excellent deal for mil/mil and pretty darn good glass.

This is what I have on my 22. Great scope, clear glass, tracks perfectly!

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

Dantrom is correct. Perhaps someone was speaking of a .22 pellet. The recoil from spring piston air guns is extremely abusive to optics. The violent movement fore and aft of the piston can play havoc on an inferior scope product. .22 rimfire firearms are certainly mild enough recoil to use just about any optic available.

But there's no parallax adjustment. May not be an optimal setup on a rimfire if you plan to shoot anything at close range.

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I've got one on my CZ 453. Works like a champ so far. My only complaint would be reticle thickness at 25X when aiming for a 1/2" dot a 100 yds, well that and it weighs almost as much as the rifle, but that's my fault because I chose to put a 5-25 on a 22.

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

My Falcon Menace is holding up just fine on the AR10. This is it's "retirement" from when it was on the 700.

It has several thousand rounds through it. Many of those were at a basic sniper course. When I get a replacement scope for the AR10, then the Menace will probably get dropped down to one of the trainers. The only reason I don't keep it as a primary is because my version is a MOA/Mil setup, purchased before the Mil/Mil was available.

I have the Menace from back in 2009 when everybody was jumping on that bandwagon (that is, before everybody jumped OFF the bandwagon) and my Menace is perfect, beautiful, repeatable, and wonderful.

It's amazing what 2 years can do to the reputation of a riflescope.

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I have one of the Falcons from the 2009 Koolaid everyone was sipping on. No problems with mine either.. It is however destined for my .22 as soon as my batch of SWFA koolaid arrives.

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I too have one of the early Falcons the 4-18-56's that has been holding up real well. It was on my .223AI bolt gun for a while and has been spending a lot of time on the AR as of late. Good solid scope that has worked out well for me.

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I Have a 4-14 late version bought in early '10 . It has seen around 2k rounds on a varmint AR without an issue . Tracks on the money and actually has rather nice glass for a scope at that price point .

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I've got a couple - one of them is a 4-18 version that sits on a Rem700 SPS tac in .223. I do a lot of shooting with this rifle out to 800 yards and the scope has been fantastic since the day it went on. Holds zero and tracks reliably. I've also got a 4-14 version and that does just fine, even had it on a 300WM without any issues.
A Falcon on a rimfire is well up to the task...

Re: Menace on a Rimfire

I'm considering putting the 4-14 on the 22 trainer I'm building. I just looked at their website but don't see how close the parallax will adjust. Will this get down to 25 yards?

Just checked mine and it focussed in at about 15 yards on 14x.
