Message Center - Subscriptions? What are they?

Under Message Center, on the left hand column it says 'Subscriptions' and underneath it says Posts and Users.

When I click on Users, it has threads I have never posted in or even read. Does this mean I am somehow subscribed to the post or the OP (not sure how to even subscribe to anyone) or they are somehow subscribed to me and I see what they post?

If you are reading this thread and look above the thread below the Kahles ad on the right hand side there is a +subscribe button click it and you will be notified when ever anyone adds a post to this thread. Once subscribed the button transforms to unsubscribe, if you no longer which to be notified of posts then click unsubscribe. For the rest of your question I-dunt-know.

I can't find the old subscriptions or the +subscribe button...Is it me or should this be easier? I had a ton of great threads subscribed to and can't find any of them now.
