So I just got my midway pro mat. It's really nice, I like that it comes with a carrying sling and its alot softer than expected. The only thing that seems pretty annoying is how curled up it is. I know since it spends most of its time bundled up, thats what makes it so curled, but has anyone figured out a way to help this? My other mat curled a bit at the very ends of it but not more than 5-6 inches from the ends. This entire mat seems to curl, and want to just roll up into a cylinder.

Also, I know that there are straps to put your bipod against. Has anyone encountered any adverse effects from this? By adverse effects, I mean worse accuracy or consistency since your adding more pressure to the system.

Mine rolls out flat. I think it might have curled a bit in the beggining. Roll it out and lay on it a while, watch a movie, or just go shoot with it. Then see where it's at.

Leave it out in the sun for a few hours to erase its memory then roll it the other way (bottom of the mat facing the center of the roll).

Re: midway mat all curled up

A buddy just got one of the same mats and I noticed it had the same issue. I think, with some use, it will be fine.
I have a shooting mat made by TAB Gear. It is much more compact, fits into a pouch on my backpack, works very well and (Best of all) is made in USA.

Another tip I have had success with is when rolling the mat up take the first 4 inches of the front of the mat and fold it backwards under the mat then roll it up from front to rear over that first 4 inch flap you made. Then when you unroll the thing at least the front of it will lay flat.

They break in with a little use. A couple hours rolled out in the sunlight and it will be fine. As for the bipod straps, I like them, but make sure you don't have POI changes with/without them. Your not always going to have your mat to shoot from.

Re: midway mat all curled up

I was one of the first folks to get one not long after they came out and mine still has a tendency to want to roll a little after its been stowed for a while. I have a couple of wally world aluminum tent stakes that I carry with mine and just stake down the corners. Easy fix if yours continues to have roll-up issues.

This. Only took an outing or two before that pony was broken.

Sorry this doesnt have anything to do with your questions.

    LS2 or 3?

Is there a blower hiding under that hood or is it just for the look?

You can also go to Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, etc. and get a pack of landscaping spikes/nails. 4 of these fit quite nicely into the sewn in pouch. These are steel instead of alluminum which keeps them from bending easily. You can also spray paint them a bright color to make them easy to see so as not to lose them. One thing I did was take the tips to my grinder to dull them down a bit. Simple fix and works very well - Keeps mat flat and in place, especially if it's windy.

Seriously, the spikes are a good suggestion and will help minimize movement of your mat while shooting.

Op, thanks, didn't even think to ask about this.

Everyone else, thanks for the information, mine still has the tendency to roll up, Will try leaving in the sun & possibly unrolled & upside over night!

I would say if you buy one you should inspect it pretty close before going prone on it.

OUCH!!! That's not good at all and I hope he found it the "easy" way and not the "hard" way!

Re: midway mat all curled up

Thanks for all the advice guys. I shot with it the other day and it worked perfectly.

2006 ls2. I was one click away from putting an A&A blower in it about 2 years ago. Then I decided I already barely use the power it has anymore, so the money is better spent elsewhere. Thats basically when I stopped putting anything else into it, and the result is what you see!
