Recently acquired an older Leupold VX-3 3.5x10 with a mil-dot reticle. Do I need to have the power setting on any certain power for the spacing of the dot to be correct or does it matter?

Am especially interested in holding for windage but thought I read somewhere that the level of power effected the accuracy of the dots.

Re: Mil-dots and Magnification

I expect that's a 2nd focal-plane reticle. To be sure, look through the scope, and change the power. If the reticle stays the same size, it's a 2nd FP reticle, and there is - maybe - one power at which the reticle is accurate.

To find out what that power is, if there is one, see:

Optically Checking Rifle Scopes

And, before someone asks, yes, I have checked SFP scopes from a major manufacturer which could not be adjusted to a power where the reticle was accurate. That's not a good thing.

Subject to Lindy's link....

I have one. 10x is the setting. However this may not be quite correct so you need to run Lindy's checks.
