Advanced Marksmanship military vs. FBI maximum moa?

Re: military vs. FBI maximum moa?

Correct. I don't know what kind of response you were hoping for but yes the M24 SWS was guaranteed to shoot 1 moa or better by Remington.

FBI has to deal with hostage situations requiring higher precision, such as a central nervous system incapacitation shot.

Military just wants to get a vital hit somewhere so accuracy can be a bit less.

Re: military vs. FBI maximum moa?

I would guess the military also has an issue with reliability, their guns would be used in a very harsh environment, ice, sand, mud, etc. and a gun with very tight tolerences would fail easily, just a guess though im not sure, but I agree with McCrazy also

Re: military vs. FBI maximum moa?

I would imagine it is harder to promise the better accuracy with a gun that is carried and used in harsh infil methods. I would imagine snipers in the states grab their guns out of the box and find a spot. The Mil snipers will be carrying the sniper systems threw harsh conditions and in a variety of different vehicles. I know my M4 takes a beating when I would go out. I can only imagine a sniper system taking one as well. I would hate to put a stamp on something knowing it is going to bite me later if it does not hold its accuracy. 2cents anyway

Re: military vs. FBI maximum moa?

The M24 contract... holds 1 minute at 800m. I dont think the FBI criteria is 800m. Still, I've seen a lot of M24s (I commanded the sniper school at benning for 2 years) and they were all well under a MOA. With lake city match it was junk if it was over 3/4. When we shot hand loads (all the brass wont let you for CYA reasons) 3/8 wasnt uncommon. There were a few that were true 1/4 moa and then there were some that wouldnt do much better than .6 something..... SAKO TRG has my vote. I've seen many a custom rig that wouldnt shoot better than the factory TRG.

Re: military vs. FBI maximum moa?

I taught at 1st. Mar Div Sniper School from 91-94, the vast majority of our M40's would shoot .5 MOA (100 yards) with good ammo. My personal rifle would often shoot .35-.40 for an average at 100 yards. 3 shot groups.

The industry standard is 3 shot groups. But...we know better.
