Im gonna be getting a new scope for myself soon and will be limited to about $500 for it. I have pretty much narrowed it down to these tow choices. I have read a lot of things on here about both scopes and both have their ups and certainly their downs. ill share what I have come up with and if yall could, give me yalls opinions on how much it matters and what you would do.

Millet LRS-1

Likes:
35mm tube and 140 Min of adjustment.

Dislikes:
Huge!!
Limited ring choice, but it does come with them already.
A lot of warrany returns it seems like.
Some say it hasnt repeated correctly for them.
SFP is ok. Im use to it so I already work around it.

Falcon 5-25x56 FFP

Likes:
Everyone says it tracks PERFECT every time.
ML16 reticle is nice.
FFP is very cool and simple.

Dislikes:
Massive knobs.
Dont think the knobs lock in anyway(may be wrong).
Cant find how much adjustment it has.
Doesnt come with mounts, but I have a bunch of 30mm rings already.

Also, Im still trying to figure out how many inches equal 1 MIL. If anyone could tell me that Id really be happy. Its around 0.33" from what Ive calculated but Id like to know exactly.

Don't think in inches. If you are going to have a mil/mil scope, think in mils or fractions thereof.
.1mil is VERY close to .3 of an inch (as you have already figured out), the only time you have to worry about inches/mils is if you have a mil/moa scope (like mine).
If you are shooting paper at the range, the beauty of the mil/mil scope is that you look and estimate how many mils you are off with your scope. If you are off 1.5 mils, turn the adjustment 15 clicks.

FWIW, I believe Vortex makes a scope in that price bracket, 6.5-20 or something like that but it is a mil/moa setup (really not that big of a deal).

Re: Millet LRS-1 mil/mil or Falcon 5-25x56 FFP mil/mil

This is true but up until now all of my range cards are in MOA and Inches. None of my ballistics software has an option to output drop in MILS. I wish it did. But I need some way to convert my current tables to MILS from inches.

I will look at the Vortex scope too. Thanks for that recommendation.

EDIT: I just found that 0.1 MIL is 0.36" at 100 yards. 1 MILS is 3.6" at 100 Yards. Duh. Should have known that.

Also, the 6.5-20x56 Vortex is $2K. That is the only one I can find that is of this feature set. Is that the one you were thinking of?

Re: Millet LRS-1 mil/mil or Falcon 5-25x56 FFP mil/mil

McLarenRoss,
I am stuck also deciding between these two makes of scopes.
For me it is going to be the Millet Trs-1 or the Falcon Menace 4-14x44ffp. Not much difference except in power vs. your choices.

A factor I am curious about in the Trs and Lrs is on what power the reticle is going to have accurate range finding properties. Full Zoom or 8X etc.? I have no clue and cannot find a write up on it. The Menace is going to be accurate at all powers via FFP. A mapping of the reticle may be needed in the Millett.

Right now I am leaning toward the Falcon because of the FFP, the ML16 reticle, 30mm tube, and tracking abilities. Does not have as much internal adjustment but with a 20 MOA rail should easy pass 1000yds with .308.

I am curious as to what other members of the hide are going to say in this matter.

Good luck with your decision and let me know what you decide!

Re: Millet LRS-1 mil/mil or Falcon 5-25x56 FFP mil/mil

These are exactly the things Ive been looking at. I think I read that on the LRS-1 the reticle was correct at 10.5x. Dont know if that is true though. I too am leaning toward the falcon due to the ease of use of the reticle and adjustments together. I already have a 20MOA base so adjusting to 1000 is not a concern but being able to do it every time from my 100 yard zero is a major concern.

Re: Millet LRS-1 mil/mil or Falcon 5-25x56 FFP mil/mil

I read that also and it is kind of stupid to have to adjust the reticle to 10.5x if you ask me. You will never know if you are at 10.9x or 10.1x. Just somewhere in the middle. Could be a major factor at +500yrds. Also you would have to lean up everytime to check the power ring.

Also with the higher power Falcon I have read that the edges of the image begin to bleed/fuzz out after 20x. The reticle stays sharp but the image blurrs. On the 4-14x this does not seem to be a problem. Must be the higer power.

The only plus the Millet has going for it is the iluminated reticle. This would be very nice in lowlight when all the critters decide to appear.

If Falcon offered an iluminated FFP reticle that was not overpowering they would own the market in my opinon.

Not the razor, which would be nice, but WAY out of my price range, but this:

480 bucks and gets great reviews.

Fwiw, the rifle pictured wears a Millet TRS-1, the mil-dots are supposed to be accurate at 10x, I have done a couple of ranging exercises and they seem accurae enough.
