Since I am still in school and not able to set back enough money for a real nice scope like I'd like. I have been searching for some "budget" glass for quite awhile now and keep coming back to the Millett TRS-1. I'm looking for the best I can get that's in the $300-350 area. From what I have read there are many that love it and many that don't. Are there any of y'all that have really used this scope and what are some better options that fits in my budget?

Re: Millett TRS-1?

They're decent for the price. I've owned the TRS-1 and just traded for a 700P with a 6-25 Buck Gold on it. The TRS I had did well for me, but it can be hit or miss on quality just like most other Chinese made optics. I'm not saying they're junk, because they're not, but there are much better options available for not much more in price.

My personal suggestion, extend your budget another $100 and step up to a Vortex Viper. Much better customer service, lifetime no BS warranty, and overall more reliable than the Millett offerings IMHO.

Re: Millett TRS-1?

My .02 cents.

I have been running a older 4-16 MOA/MIL dot bar for the last four years. I have used it in several comps on top of my GAP(I know most think GAP owners only have S&B or some shit). I have only had two issues. first, the illum. cap popped off one day, not during a match though. This was fixed by Millett. They sent me a whole new scope four years ago. The second is I always lost my zero on the turret's if I didn't pay attention to how many revolutions I made. That has also been addressed now by them. My scope has THOUSANDS of rounds under it with no failure to track or return to zero other than the ones I caused.

I think that this scope in 4-16 with the better turret design and then be able to be had in MIL/MIL is not a bad option in that price range. Pretty sure they have a lifetime warranty as well!

Please know that I am not a glass whore! I have used S&B,USO,and all the other big names. I guess my eyes are not good enough to be as picky as others. This scope worked well for me if I did my part. That being said I have started a move to the Bushnell HDMR's. That's what I put on my AIAW.(Another weapon that seems to requires a S&B)
