Of the 5 mid range scopes I have, in terms of optical clarity only, my subjective comparisons at high power at 1000 yards are as follows:
1st Millet TRS 4-16x50, 30mm tube, atac camo- clearest at highest power 16x, also clearest at 14x to fairly compare with the Burris E1. Note: 16x clear, heavy scope, clicks mushy/hard to hear. Repeatable at the range despite feel. I have two, currently Mounted on a M&P 308 and a Savage 22-250. Held zero so far, even after the 308 hit the ground at the range. Left it centered on bipod, which shifted to the side and fell off of the table onto concrete. Kept zero.
2nd Burris E1 Fullfield II 4.5-14x42, 1" tube -might only be second place because 42mm objective and 1" tube vs. Millets's 50mm obj and 30mm tube. Note: Best eyebox-despite 4.5x min power, can easily acquire close targets very quickly applying BAC, would work well on AR platform, neat reticle, very light, no resetable turrets. Currently on daughter's 7mm-08. Held zero so far.
3rd Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50, 30mm tube - really tie with the Burris in image quality, but I gave it 3rd place due to its 50mm obj and 30mm tube, so I felt it should have been better given the larger sizes. Note: Tied best click feel/sound turrets, 2nd coolest turrets, capped pop ups. Felt a little flimsy when popping them up though. Gets slightly cloudy at max power (As well as the Viper PSTs I have looked through, not impressed with Vortex at high power except for the Razor.)
4th Nikon Monarch 4-20x44-surprised me since highest price I paid of them all. Note: Tied best eyebox-despite 5x min power, can easily acquire close targets very quickly applying BAC, would work well on AR platform, light, comes with tacticle turrets. Tough, have had on my 338 WM, now on my 300 WM, recoil has yet to affect reticle. 300WM is my primary big game rifle, it has seen some abuse, dropped, landed on, ATV scabbards, horse scabbards, etc. Tied best click feel/sound turrets. Not pop-up though. Absolutely need sun shade if aiming west after 3pm in November!
5th Nitrex TR2 (superslam) 3-15x50-surpised me also, since the superslam would have been the most expensive, but I got this nitrex tr2 on closeout. Clarity just slightly behind Nikon. Tied best click feel/sound turrets. Pop-up turrests were the coolest, though not zero stop just reset to zero like nikon. No need for caps. Fairly light for 50mm objective and handles the 338 WM recoil fine though.
Clarity at low power are great for all of the above. No real difference with any of them. I hear the Millets are tough and should be able to take the magnum recoil. However, I feel they are too heavy for hunting since I tend to cover many miles carrying the gun. Rifle rig is heavy enough without adding another pound to the system.
What I find most amazing is that the clarity at high settings ranked almost opposite of price. The cheapest had the best high mag clarity, followed by the second least expensive (my first Burris, I am impressed, really want to see the Veracity models.) Was happy with Nikon clarity until I did the side by side comparison. Really disappointed in the Weaver though. For a $500-650 scope, should really have better clarity IMHO.
I agree with hrfunk, nice scope for the money. Better than a lot of scopes that cost twice as much. I think I saw the ATAC model on sale for 219.00 somewhere too!
