I had a decent experience with a Millett LRS until a piece of "goo" landed on the inside of the eyepiece. So I sent it back.

Then, knowing that I had a chance to start over I bought a Vortex PST FFP 6-24.

But, I was considering buying another Millett until I saw this.

Amazon.com: Ade Advanced Optics 6-25X56 35mm Long Range Rifle Scope Illuminated Mildot Bar: Sports & Outdoors

It looks exactly like the Millett LRS.

Look at the Millett....

Now, I never claimed to be smart.... but I'm also no dummy. I have heard many good endorsements of Millett scopes even though they are made in China... But this has me thinking Millett (or Bushnell, who owns Millett) just bought into a cheap scope-maker in China who had offerings without them (Millett) creating the actual scope and having it MFG'd in China. It seems to me as if someone created Millett as a way to brand something as high end and then offer a big discount (Originally MSRP 800.00 down to 500.00 for all) just like Invicta (terrible brand) does for their watches.

How can we deny this given the two links? Unless, the first link's company bought into the parts that are used to make Millett scopes within the confines of China...? you know?

Millet contracted with a factory in China to produce the scope (before they were bought by Bushnell).

Millet did the legwork, designing the scope how they wanted it, along with the design of the reticle.

The Chinese, being the Chinese, then began selling the same scope to someone else.

Just as Falcon optics did with their 4-14, which is also now sold by primary arms, albeit with a different reticle and BSA.

Okay, then... can I buy the cheaper one that doesn't say Millett and be getting the same scope?

Common with Chinese manufacturing.

Company does R and D, and such, specs a product. Has factory in China build for low cost. Chinese factory starts making knock offs. Sometimes as good as the original, sometimes with sub standard materials. And overall, likely to have poor QC, even if they use the same materials. And NO customer service.

OP:

Horses for courses, you know? I know guys shooting Millet 6-24 for benchrest .22 and loving them. Cheap magnification that doesn't need to be rugged or incredibly clear. So "cheap Chinese"? Maybe not. Personally I don't get benchrest .22 though. I'm going to buy a .22 rifle next, but I'm sorta thinking shooting it freehand.
