I have a 4x30 IOR for my AR right now and I'm having a hard time acquiring and engaging targets at less than 30 yards, especially while moving. I was considering mounting a mini red dot to my rifle. I'm aware that there are many different ways to do it, and many different MRDS, so if you could tell me what you've tried and what you've found that works that would be very helpful.

I've been looking at the same option, however the target turrets on the Mark 4 count them all out. Other option for close up work is a red/green laser?

Re: Mini Red Dot for my AR

I run a JPoint mounted in an AMS Machine (lowest I could find) on a rail at 1:00 on my JP/VTac forend. I love it, rifle only needs to be pivoted a little to get good sight picture with a solid cheekweld.
I traded in my ST10 scope (was doing it to go fom MOA to Mil), and am having the new one built with a left side windage knob to have a clear right side-this will be nice, but it isn't necessary.

Matt Burkett also markets a nice mount that can place a JPoint/Docter at 1:00 from either the 12:00 or 3:00 rail for four rail forearms.
I'm not a fan of the scope tube mounts, as I like a good cheekweld.

Cant rifle a few degrees to use micro red dot at short range, will clear turrets.
Other similar devices around, this is one of the best.

Errr . . . $432 for a mount?!? I hope that's a typo on TNVC's website!

ETA: What the . . ? Now it says $189. Maybe my browser's jacked or something.

ETA2: OK, I think I got it. Mount is $189, but I had clicked a photo with one of the MRDs and a light in the mount, so it selected that option for me, hence the high price. Got it.

I run a 4x Acog on my Colt Hbar 16" that i use for IPSC, which most the matches i shoot around here has mostly close targets. So wanted something for speed as well.
.
I picked up Burris Fastfire II and put it on YHM's angled mount (11 or 1 oclock).

A slight tilt and its ready to go...height is fine for me I dont need to change my cheek weld at all.
