I am pretty new to reloading and mainly load for my AR's.
I read in the 3 load books I have that the brass length for .223 is:

Max: 1.760"
Min: 1.750"

After I have been shooting, cleaning and reloading I have noticed that some of the brass after cleaning (before trimming)
is somewhere around the lengths of 1.744"-1.748". I might only find a couple of these out of 100pcs. This is after the 2nd or 3rd reload with either Lake City or Remington brass.

I was wondering of these are o.k. to use cuz the minimum length said 1.750" but at that small of a difference i dont think it would matter (ex.1.745") unless it was a big difference say 1.730" then I would say no.

Are these pcs of brass GTG?

I have trimmed to shorter than 1.750, by accident. From what I have read here, the last few days; the worse you can expect is powder burned on the short case neck.

I'm trying to understand the neck tension thing; suppose to have an effect on accuracy. Thus, if the neck is too short, can the tension be right? I'll bet that depends on taper, roll, or no crimp.

Being on this site is like going to science class. Just wait, and some professor will give you the answer, complete with reference(s). So much to load, have to take my time. School never lets out on "the Hide."

Load them and shoot them. Not even worth worrying about.

Make sure you size them before measuring the length or trimming, though. The lengths are for a sized case.

See, I told you. Just wait and some Professor will have an answer for you. Just got my question on neck tension from another Professor on the Hide.

School should have been, this much fun.

Wonder if I'll ever graduate?

They're fine.
Brass grows after resizing so measure then.
Too long is bad because eventually it will contact the ramp for the lands and can pinch the bullet elevating pressures.
