Can a hot barrel produce sufficient mirage in the scope, especially at higher power, to cause significant vertical dispersion downrange?

The few I've seen were pieces of mini blinds put on with self adhesive velcro though I'd think someone would sell a better one.

These work pretty well and come in a little more 'lively' variety of colors/patterns

For the occasions when my 'field' rifle (which usually *doesn't* have a mirage band/shield on it for practical reasons) gets hot enough to cause problems... one solution that falls under the 'looks dumb but works' category is to tip your head to the side, take a deep breath, and blow steadily down the length of the barrel for a few seconds. That'll buy you a few (5-10) seconds to get back on the gun and make the next shot. If you have to do it more than once, you probably should have either brought a mirage band
or hit your target sooner

You don't need to move your head off the rifle to blow down the brl. With a little experimentation, & practice you can blow out of the corner of your mouth to get the job done. You still have only a few seconds to fire either way. This will give you a second or two extra not having to get your head back in position.
