I am pro death penalty, but only for the reason that I believe society has the right to exact retribution.
I don't believe that the death penalty deters crime, because most people either think they won't get caught, or it is a crime of passion, or craziness.
I don't believe that the death penalty saves money, because of all the time we warehouse them and the appeals process the public pays for before the sentence is carried out.
However, I do agree with the sentiment stated above that the possibility of executing one wrong person is a really horrific thought.
I just haven't reconciled my objections with my belief yet. Perhaps that is because there is a flaw in my logic that I need to work out. However, I have other similar issues: I eat meat, and used to hunt, yet believe it is our duty to protect "lesser" animals.
