MK 12 Picture & Discussion Thread

i imagine it was bought right from pri, i picked it up in the marketplace here.
the upper says precision reflex on it though.

If it is a PRI factory upper, you may wish to re-torque anything with threads. I had a factory PRI MOD 0 where pretty much everything except the barrel nut and muzzle break came loose in the first 600 rounds. On a MOD 0 that is a lot of threaded fasteners.

Super excited to see this thread, I've been following it for a while but keep getting caught up and distracted. My love affair with SPRs has mostly been a professional relationship but they are one of those things that are near and dear to my cold little heart. I actually had the privilege of cutting my teeth on the Mk12 MOD 0 back in the day, I honestly don't think you can find a cooler looking SWS, MOD 0 are just rad. That said, out of practicality I eventually switch over to the MOD 1 and while the lines aren't the same, the performance I got out of my MOD 1 was amazing. The MOD 0 always shot well, around 0.75ish, but I'm unsure of the round count on it before I inherited her, so that may not be fair. The MOD 1 I got in 2011 was a virgin and after a few hundred rounds she settled in to a solid 0.25 MOA gun.

Over the years I've built a couple of clones, but again being a man of practicality my nostalgia loses out quickly for lighter/faster variants. That said every time I see a MOD 0 or MOD 1, I find myself whispering "Fuck yeah" LOL.

Here's a pic of my MOD 0 back in 09'-10'. While I originally feel in love with it for urban work in places like Iraq, it was a pretty descent jungle stick too, although I totally ditched the bipods.

And here is a pic of my MOD 1 in Afghanistan 12". While I'd say 5.56 was definitely a little on the light end for most of my work as ranges goes but it definitely offers advantages for some situations. We mainly employed along side the Mk13s or 107s as a sniper support rifle for the spotters, or in situations where snipers were embedded as singletons in support of maneuver elements. I favored it quite a bit over the M110 for weight savings and commonality of ammo. You wouldn't think 80 rounds of LR would go so quick but 10 hours into a fire fight and you find your down to your last mag and a half, it is not a great feeling. LOL!

Good stuff. Thank you.
What kind of Leupold in that second pic, with a TMR reticle Im guessing? Do you think its practical to consider the MK12 a 700y gun?

1.) The PRS stock was tad heavy, still lighter than the M110 all tricked out for work, but that stock was what I had at the time for getting a proper check weld. Nowadays I run a CTR with LaRue RISER.

2. and 3.) The optic on the MOD one is the Leupold Mk4 ERT 6.5-20x with H58 and the Aimpoint T1. The Mk4 MRT 2.5-8x was a dogshit optic. I mean too be fair, I guess it was ok for 04'-05' timeframe but not even close to a good choice in 12' or by todays standards. I ran the MRT in the early MOD 0 days but as I started really appreciating good glass that thing was gone.

4.) Practically, as a SWS under normal/standard atmospheric conditions, yeah a Mk12 is a solid 700y gun. She kinda lacks the authority farther out compared to the heavy cals but you can certainly conected out at distance...just not as "humanely".

I started down this rabbit hole on this trip home from Iraq. I am still missing some proper parts that will have to wait for my next trip home to install.

rifle #1 is a Factory PRI Mod 0 and its stupid accurate. I picked it up from Brownells with one of the 10% off codes which put it at the $1600 mark shipped. So far it has been worth the price of admission.

rifle #2 is a rebuild. I had a Colt LEO trade in M4 that I gutted and rebuilt. Still waiting on my #38 S-EX rail and proper rings/caps to get here but its looking like those mods will be the next trip home as I just want to get some rounds on it. I also have the proper M3A scope for the setup with the S-EX rail.

Changed the NF scope out to the clone correct Leupold. Thanks to Leupold for a special run of MK12 scopes.

I know its not exactly and MK12 but since I built my MK12 I been wantin to do a Recce similar to an MK12 on a KAC lower. I got it all together today and shot it and then took it back apart to send the barrel to be cut, retreaded and the brake welded in place. I will have the suppressor flush with the rail when it comes back. It hated 62 grain pills and loved FGMM 77 grain. Can’t wait to get it back.

The first time I saw the mod 0, I fell in love. To this day I believe it's one of the best looking rifles. I built this about 10 years ago or so. It was my second build. It has changed quite a few times over the years but this is the closest it's ever been to a replica.

I changed the barrel to the correct contour a couple years ago and already had a few thousand custom loads from the old one of 77 nosler and 8208 XBR. While it's hard to shoot 5 under an inch at 100 yds, it's insane at 300-800. I still don't understand that, but it is what it is. By far my favorite rifle to shoot.

Spikes upper/lower, BCM bcg, Geissele SD-E, PRI Gen III handguard and rail, PRi gas block, Ops brake and collar, ARMS 40L-SP rear and #22M rings. AEM5 still in jail.

That’s an awesome build dude.. What brand barrel and twist is that?

With Dwilsonmfg doing the month of zuck special it only cost me $20 to have it cut, retapered for the collar, threaded and pinned and welded. That included teh return shipping. It looks sweet now, its probably 3/32” from the can to teh end of the rail.

Bringing this back from the dead. After three years of searching I have finally found my Mildot 24mm NXS! I feel like I stole it, delivered for $1080 :)

Changed the battery and the illumination came right on. Glass is 98%. I could not be more tickled shitless. If it wasnt for a massive URI/Sinus infectionn I'd be at range today re-doing my zero and come ups. Getting old has mellowed me some...

What kind of leupold is that, which reticle?

Got the 1.3" Nightforce rings from a member here. Had in out last weekend to zero and get some come ups. Only have 100 and 500y.

If I'm being honest, the 32mm was easier on my eyes.

Recently parted with my MK4 Leupold in favor of a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42. Just prefer the Nightforce setup better. Anyone running a Nightforce scope with ARMS rings or have you all gone ahead and switched over to Nightforce rings to match?

For my Mod1 is was a total pain in the ass for load development. I went across everything from Nosler 77s, 77 SMK and eventually the TMK. Then couldn't get anything reliable to group at accuracy I was going to be happy with and chased it down the hole with Varget, 2000MR, RL15, Benchmark and finally had it all come together with 8202XBR.

When I got the Mod Holland afterwards, it was a simple adjustment and I had loads for both. Ironically, the 16 inch Holland shoots better than the 18 inch Mod1.

77g TMK,
23.4 IMR 8208 XBR
CCI 400,
1.8205 ogive OAL ~2.260 COAL
.002 neck tension (.2465 loaded diameter)
LC NATO Brass

old post but hah! My mod 1 was the exact same. Douglas barrel? 6 different projectiles and 3 different powders before getting to that glorious 77TMK and XBR combo. Shoots like a dream now. 23.5 gr XBR in LC brass w/ CCI400s. 2720 fps w/ 8-10 fps average SD.

my final Mod 1 build kit
