Just found out the mk4 is available in ffp as well so between the two which would you guys prefer?

This will be going on a m21-ish build with a vltor rail so I would like to keep this fairly compact for the flat rail and in the same magnification range with ffp if there is anything else I should consider.

A used USO 1.8-10x would do very nicely as well without breaking the bank. Otherwise there's not much else in that price range for FFP options in the ?-10x mag range.

NF 2.5-10x24/32 destroys both of them, but its SFP.

MK4 is 20 year old tech that gets beat by $200 specials. The only reason to buy one is building a true clone.

Bushnell makes a very nice 3-12 FFP with the G2 around $600 with military pricing. The 3-9 and 3-15 SWFA are also there as well.

Not if you have a G2 and don't want to dial............

But at what power will you most likely be using the reticle for milling/holdovers/leads?

If the scope tops out at 10X, you'll likely be using it at 10X. So, the whole idea of FFP for leads/holdovers/milling at any power is a moot point, as you are going to be maxed out on your mag anyway.

If you have a 3-15/3-18, different story, as the reticle is usable over a far wider range of magnification.

True, the utility is limited but it is one less thing I have to worry about. One of the reasons an illuminated reticle or dot helps soo much when shooting at lower power.

If i am shooting in the woods or from a tree stand, I want to be able to dial it back and still shoot using hold over. It is more pronounced on the x12 and x15 optics.

I had a Bushy 3-12 with the G2. I LOVED the reticle. the clicks were a hair mushy and the turret didn't line up 100% it had great glass. the ONLY reason I got rid of it is I wanted more magnification. but i really like the simple g2. it is way better than a screen door er Horus reticle.

my two cents.

Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44 FFP w/G2DMR reticle bought it based on a recommendation of another hide member for my Tikka CTR .223. I can call shots with it at 100 yards. At 200 yards I use the reticle for hold over and it puts me right on the money.

My primary concern is getting a 40mm or less objective to keep it decently low. Th is will be on a flat vltor rail on a m14 so I would like to keep it low.

I guess I don't need the ffp but it is a preference. I may also consider something up to a 4x on the low end as long as it's compact and decently light.
