Re: MN member checking in!

20-30 rounds gunman, they try to keep it somewhat light on the round count so everyone can shoot before it gets too dark.

We got room too if you clowns need a place to crash for the night afterwards instead of driving all the way home!

Re: MN member checking in!

Adam, what time are they planning on starting for the early season sessions? 5pm? I am assuming the first month or so it will be 22 rounds fired on target to get everyone through the rotation before it gets dark out. Later in the season it will be 44 rounds or two strings of fire. Managed to light off 44 rounds of 300RUM at 300 yards at one of the matches last year....was a little sore the next day.

I am going to try my best to make it to the match's and will be shooting a bolt action 308 and an ar15 .223 to keep myself in F class tactical rifle (TR). You have 22 minutes of time to fire. 2 sighters and 20 rounds for score. Nobody is going to say anything if you keep on firing once you are done scoring.

Re: MN member checking in!

They did not send times out yet with the newsletter so I am sure they will with the next one once we get a bit closer to the season.

It will be 22 in the beginning this year and 34 in the middle (15 & 15 + sighters) to make things move a little quicker as they are expecting a bigger turnout this season.

You buy the ammo for the new toy that is coming in shortly AV and I'll let you try it out for one of the F-Class matches but you have to shoot it with no brake.

Re: MN member checking in!

I forgot to ask, how much ammo should I bring for the match in princeton?

p.s.- 750 grain a-max and 200 grains of powder sounds expensive, I think I will bring something that shoots a 75 grain a-max and burns more like 20 grains of powder

Thanks,

Steve

I ended up putting it into a Hogue stock for a lightweight hunting rifle. (kind of a truck gun) I haven't put a scope on it yet, but I have a few older Redfields laying around, so I'll probably use one of those.
Or I eventually may use it as I originally intended, a donor action for a custom build. I have all the pieces (A-4, Rock bbl, etc) Although I'm kinda keeping my eye out for another action for this.

Re: MN member checking in!

I hear ya John. That is a nice handy stick. You need to become one with the group buy section. Stiller group buy, surgeon group buy, ect. Plenty of sweet actions to be had. Wait for someone to back out and pounce. I've got one coming, of course I'm not backing out of it.lol

Re: MN member checking in!

Adam, when you get the newsletter, let us know the dates. Its it straight F-Class? What are the rules one has to follow there? Much different than P-town?

no, although I do know a J from TH.

Re: MN member checking in!

Chris & Noah,
We thought about it a bit on the way home and took a look here. It's about 650 yards (just guessing, I'll range it tomorrow)across a field here with a nice hill for a backstop. I have some steel targets and lots of 3'X3' paper targets. I'll make some more steel targets of different sizes and some target stands for groups and score on paper targets. I've got a couple shooting benches and a large flat platform we can lay on for prone shooting, add a few odds and ends for some position or situation shooting.

I'll start makeing some steel targetsof specific size for rangeing. Lets try to get togather in 2 or 3 weeks an have a little shoot from 0 to ? yds. Might be a lot fo fun and I'll only have a minimal cost in a few more range items that I've been meaning to build anyway.

Re: MN member checking in!

Sounds like a plan! I have an open weekend that might work well. Feb 7th and 8th (Sat & Sun). Whats everyone's availability? I Have some things to bring for targets and a good solid shooting table.

And I think it has been officially nick named.... "The Marty Match"

Re: MN member checking in!

I'm really hoping to do this on the 7-8th. Was just given full pass to do what ever that weekend... And I was just talking with Noah, sounds like when we come out it will almost have to be an over nighter, its a 4 hour road trip each way... Maybe we can car pool, I can fit four guys +gear in my Marauder fairly comfortably....

Re: MN member checking in!

yeah, we'll just keep it small, a couple of us to mess around. I'm flexable. Lets see what comes in the next week or so and go from there. Maybe get Garrett and Austin over for some shop time. The steel yard has some random used 1/2" that I get for projects like this. Lead core bullets and longer ranges don't bother it.

Re: MN member checking in!

How about an unknown distance on 3-4 steel plates, timed, say 5min to shoot the steel targets....one round each plate and set points for each plate....No range finders allowed....and then maybe immediately following the steel have a known distance paper target to shoot a 3-5 round scored group.....

Thats one possible relay anyhow....chris was saying there are guys out there that have no idea how to range a target using their reticle.....well this would teach them how to do it.....it really is very simple.....

Re: MN member checking in!

I was thinking some paper targets at set ranges, 5 shots to score by the scoreing ring plus any group under 1 moa is worth X points and under 1/2 moa is XX points.

Steel at unknown ranges a hit is X points but a miss is - points. 5 rounds to do as you wish. BUT each plate has a designated shooting position....prone, standing, sitting with rifle over the sawhorse

If it ends up being someething we do often or it works out well I'd like to eventually see 2 classes, one is .308 or .223 with max 10X scope, other is simply open. FOr now though just a few friends getting togather to get in some triger time.

It should go fairley fast and no one is ever down range untill it's time to run and score the paper targets.

That sounds interesting!

Re: MN member checking in!

to bad it's so far but at least gas is down and there's no match fees. I'm only minutes away from the cheepest food supply known to man..... casino. for $4 you can get enough to last all day as long as you walk out the door and not to the machines.

Re: MN member checking in!

But yea....its a win/win....Ill let you guys know when we get closer as to weather or not I can go....If I get that job I was talking about I may not be able to come....kinda hard to say..."thanks for the job....now can I have a day off?"

We could get Ken out there and use him for a moving target....

Re: MN member checking in!

Adam....we want to shoot at SMALL targets.....at least 1MOA....not 100 MOA!!

Kinda miss his smart ass comments....gives me a good target for picking on....

Oh and by the way Adam, thanks for the Hospitality....had a blast....and that was some of the best pizza Ive ever had....gonna talk the wife into buying the stuff to make it next grocery trip.....Im surprised its so damn simple to make....

Re: MN member checking in!

Anytime Noah, we are going to have to get a Bauer Arms BBQ together one of these days here and maybe grill up some pizzas!
wink.gif

I suppose Ken is a bit round, he probably wouldn't even fit in my sight window on the eotech... That only has a 65moa circle on it!
wink.gif
HAH!

Jonathan, he is out in the Dakotas working some crazy shifts to make some $$$...
